DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:

The CHA Imaging department provides advanced medical imaging services led by a team of board-certified physicians, certified technologists and service-oriented staff . We offer a full complement of imaging services including a 128-slice CT and a wide bore 1.5T MRI. We also offer interventional radiology services, diagnostic X-ray, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, and nuclear medicine. We are accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) which demonstrates our commitment to the safest and best quality care possible.

Summary:
Performs a wide range of routine and emergent US procedures. Must be capable of working independently, unsupervised in a fast paced setting. Must possess a wide range of technical knowledge. Must be able to make advanced clinical imaging decisions. Must possess good communication skills and meet service excellence standards.
This is a network position and may require assignments at multiple locations.
This position reports to Network Manager

Responsibilities:
  • Performs the full range of US procedures within the department scope of care and with a high level of competency
  • Maintains Ultra Sound imaging services in accordance with standards established by the department leadership to insure compliance with all federal, state, local and JC standards
  • Demonstrates competence and proficiency in:
  • performing all required US examinations in accordance with established protocols
  • correct positioning of patient and equipment
  • selecting appropriate US scan protocols and parameters
  • PACS and RIS image management and documentation
  • Identifies each patient, reviews each patient requisition for completeness of demographic data and consistency of examination ordered with clinical diagnosis. Serves as a resource for correcting unclear or erroneous information. Obtains and relays pertinent clinical information to radiologist
  • Ensures patient safety through the course of their stay in radiology
  • Records all pertinent data in RIS and PACS. (Technologists initials, explanation for limited procedure etc.)
  • Evaluates each image/examination for technical accuracy assuring quality exam, releases completed examinations to the radiologist
  • Communicates pertinent data to nurse responsible for the care of the patient as needed
  • Identifies anatomical orientation on all images, and insures proper marker identification on every image
  • Coordinates imaging examinations to ensure the quality and continuity of patient care
  • Manages the workflow through department to ensure the timely completion of all work.
  • Demonstrates ability to organize care and set priorities by providing critical care first and by implementing physician’s orders
  • Responds appropriately to abrupt changes in work schedule, handles interruptions by reallocating resources to the area of greatest need.
  • Performs proper computer skills to include:
  • procedure editing
  • status changes
  • ability to reprint requisitions, labels
  • ability to reorder procedures ordered incorrectly
  • ability to print “Taken” list
  • ability to utilize Electronic Medical record (EMR) EPIC to review patient data
  • ability to print signed report as needed
  • ability to operate PACS
  • Completes all employee reports according to established guidelines:
  • time card/payroll records
  • r.i.s.k. as needed
  • employee injury form as needed
  • Identifies equipment in need of repair. Notifies supervisor or vendor (in supervisor’s absence) to ensure continued service
  • Demonstrates competence in the operation of all equipment within the department that relates to performance of their imaging duties
  • Identifies area for improvement in the overall performance of the departments mission
  • Adheres to all Infection Control policies and procedures and techniques to ensure the safety of both self and patient
  • Demonstrates commitment to professional growth and development

  • Provides accurate preliminary observations to radiologist using sono-reporting in accordance with protocols
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Alliance regulations in fire and safety, infection control, disaster preparedness and emergency codes according to department protocols
  • Reports all safety hazards that could harm self, patients, visitors or other hospital employees
  • Contributes to the effective operation of the department
  • Develops and meets goals and objectives that support departments goals
  • Performs all work assignments in an accurate manner with minimal errors and rework
  • Participates in own performance improvement appraisal by identifying goals and reviewing process with supervisors
  • Performs PACS image transfer and documentation requirements accurately. Demonstrates proficiency in resolving PACS QA issues.
  • Maintains order and cleanliness in imaging rooms and throughout the department. Preps and stocks rooms, cleans rooms and equipment between patients using appropriate cleaners
  • Provides patients with educational information and psychological reassurance prior to exam to assure patient cooperation required for quality exams
  • Assists in maintenance and compilation of statistical data as appropriate
  • Participates in research initiatives and protocols as appropriate
  • Participates in training and orientation of students and technologists
  • Demonstrates proper hand washing techniques
  • Adheres to the ARRT/RDMS Code of Ethics
  • Performs duties independently with little or no supervision
  • Performs all other duties, as assigned


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Graduate of an AMA approved Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program
REGISTRATION: Current registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Must be registered within one year of employment if not currently registered.
Current Heart Saver or BLS certification.
SKILLS: Ability to deal efficiently, ethically and courteously with all patients, hospital personnel and others. Excellent verbal and written skills to facilitate communication with patients as well as a variety of medical and technical personnel.
EXPERIENCE: Two to five years of broad technical experience with some experience in hospital environment preferred
