Role: A Mortgage Business Development Officer provides professional mortgage services to potential borrowers related to the purchase and financing of residential real property and the refinancing of existing mortgages secured by residential real property. The Business Development Officer works independently through personal visits, or by making sales calls on realtors, builders, financial planners, and other sources other than direct referrals from employees or members of First Service Credit Union. Other typical referral sources with whom the Business Development Officer will seek to develop relationships include land developers, real estate attorneys, accountants, insurance agents, financial consultants, real estate appraisers, and banks. This is a sales position that will involve working outside the office to represent First Service Credit Union at business development functions and community events, regularly visiting the offices of sources they have developed, and meeting with loan applicants at a location convenient for them.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities: - Initiate and maintain relationships with external mortgage lead sources such as realtors, builders, land developers, financial professionals, local community groups, trade associations, and other professional contacts.
- Represent the Credit Union in community events such as CU sponsored workshops, Chamber of Commerce functions and trade association meetings.
- Solicit and facilitate mortgage loan applications from customers and clients of external contacts.
- Collaborate with the Marketing department regularly to develop new promotions and appropriate material that will assist in external relationship building and lead cultivation.
- Develop and maintain a rapport with buyers in the secondary market to assist in the sale of mortgage loans as authorized by policy.
- Maintain knowledge of available loan products, current and upcoming promotions, and underwriting and general departmental guidelines.
- Conduct mortgage loan training and coaching for employees and external contacts.
- Performs other job related duties as required.
Performance Measurements: 1.Display a healthy, growing list of external lead sources that regularly promote the Credit Union's Mortgage Department to their clients. Applications by lead source will quantified within the contact management application.
2.Ensure the department meets or exceeds 100% of established goals.
3.Serve as an ambassador of the Credit Union. Exemplify our core values through personal values that are highly aligned with the organization and mortgage department, and articulate these shared values regularly as part of relationship building.
4.Ensure the department is providing professional, timely, personalized service to all applicants, borrowers and other associates. Communicate frequently to management and staff to make certain activities are coordinated, processing times are optimized, and the borrowing experience is pleasant.
5.Ensure all sales activity complies with established policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
Knowledge and Skills: Experience - At least two to three years of mortgage lending external sales experience.
Education - NMLS required training and registered in the state of Texas. A two year college degree or: (1) Completion of a specialized course of study at a business school. (2) Completion of a specialized and extensive corporate sponsored training program.
Interpersonal Skills - A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or is usually of a proprietary or sensitive nature. Maintaining outside contacts and fostering lasting relationships is essential.
Other Skills - 1. Knowledge and experience with first and second mortgage residential real estate lending, and secondary marketing. 2. Must have working knowledge of regulations affecting mortgage lending. 3. Must have excellent communication skills. 4. Must have working knowledge of Loan Origination Systems in general, as well as spreadsheets and word processing software.

Work Environment - Must work in the corporate office location or remotely as long as confidential information is maintained within the Credit Union network, and only company issued computer equipment.
