Lemont Park District is Hiring a Dance Instructor Near Lemont, IL

As we look to expand our program variety, the Dance Instructor(s) will be responsible for teaching and training dynamic group lesson instruction in a range of techniques and dance styles. The Instructor(s) will be responsible for teaching a variety of dance programs to all ages, creating lesson plans, organizing recitals and competitions.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and instruct a variety of dance programs to include but not limited to ballet, tap, lyrical to a variety of youth age groups. Teaching the required skills correctly and enthusiastically while providing a fun and encouraging environment.

  • Assist in developing new youth and adult programming to reach the current community needs, we are currently adding Adult Programming to include Ballroom, Line Dancing and more.

  • Facilitate weekly lesson plans, choreography, music, activities, and any recital related planning. Recital coordination may include measuring dancers, costume selection and the scheduling and distribution of necessary materials.

  • Maintain ongoing attendance and evaluations of each participant throughout the session.

  • Evenings and weekends are the main program schedule for this job, flexibility is required.

  • Collaborate with the Recreation Supervisor and staff when necessary to improve programming and skills through in service meetings.

  • Observe and follow all District policies and regulations as the safety of staff and participants is of utmost importance and a continuing responsibility of all employees.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and a high school graduate or equivalent.

  • Skilled in instructing dance to participants of all age groups.

  • Strong people and customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with participants, parents, staff, and the public.

  • CPR/AED/First Aid certification within 90 days of hire.

Work Environment:

Almost always work indoors but may perform outdoors for special events. Work extremely close to other dancers, coming into close physical contact. Work can be physically demanding, on your feet and showing dance positions. May be exposed to bright stage lights or loud sounds.
