Lemont Fire Protection District is Hiring a Fire and Life Safety Educator Near Lemont, IL

Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and knowledgeable Fire and Life Safety Educator to join our team.

Under general direction, performs duties related to fire safety education and marketing activities. Manages special projects as assigned by the Fire Marshal, Administrative Deputy Chief or Fire Chief. Assists the Fire Marshal in the productive utilization of District resources to achieve the mission, goals, and objectives of the Fire Prevention Bureau. Designs, implements, and coordinates educational programs dealing with fire prevention, fire safety education, burn awareness, and injury prevention. Regularly interacts with the public, members of the Fire District, Village Departments and other public agencies.

Educators shall work directly under the supervision of the Fire Marshal

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates and assists Fire District members in presenting educational programs. Selects appropriate personnel to assist in programs and provide training as appropriate.
  • Designs, develops, and presents programs dealing with all risks to school age children and community safety. Presents programs to civic, schools, and other community groups.
  • Evaluates program effectiveness and makes necessary adjustments.
  • Evaluates, coordinates and implements evacuation procedures in new occupied public buildings such as schools, nursing homes, hotels/motels and hospitals.
  • Maintains a presence at all public education events.
  • Maintains liaison and coordinates with District supervisors and managers regarding District goals and objectives related to community education, media relations, marketing, and community outreach.
  • Consults with and advises the Fire Marshal and Administrative Deputy Chief on citizen outreach, marketing and community education policy issues.
  • Prepares management reports as assigned regarding activities and accomplishments.
  • Keeps current regarding trends and developments in public education, injury prevention, and victim assistance programs by attending educational programs and professional associations.
  • Responds to inquiries or complaints from citizens concerning fire prevention programs. Provides general information on public education activities.
  • Manages District special events, such as open house, awareness days, fire prevention week activities and enlist the assistance of other District members.
  • Performs additional duties as required by the Fire Chief.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Considerable verbal and written communications skills.
  • Knowledge of the fire prevention flow chart.
  • Knowledge of processes for working with diverse groups.
  • Ability to coordinate with school administrators and teachers in the development and review of curriculum presented through Fire District Programs.
  • Knowledge of computers, typewriters, calculators and other officeequipment.
  • Ability to direct and coordinate complicated issues and projects.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, government officials and the general public.
  • Ability to deal responsibly and respectfully with the public.
  • High school diploma, or GED equivalent.
  • A valid Illinois Driver’s License
  • Certified Public Educator, or the ability to achieve

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour

Expected hours: 18 per week
