JOB SUMMARY

The Lehi City Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer, serving the city of Lehi, a dynamic and progressive community with over 80,000 residents. The population of Lehi City continues to see significant increases and is expected to reach a population of well over 100,000. The population growth, as well as Lehi City being home to many of the large tech companies that are part of Silicon Slopes, offers a significant opportunity for those who are seeking long-term professional growth. The Lehi City Police Department is looking for applicants who are committed to a community-oriented policing philosophy. The department has assignments in Patrol, Investigations, SRO, K9, Code Enforcement, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, and SWAT. RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Qualified applicants must be 21 years of age or older at the time of graduation from the Utah P.O.S.T. law enforcement academy. It is preferred that candidates will already be certified, and in good standing with P.O.S.T., as a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) in the State of Utah, or be certifiable as a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) prior to date of employment.
  • Applicants must possess a valid Utah driver's license or have the ability to obtain one prior to employment.
  • Applicants who are currently serving in law enforcement in an LEO capacity may be given preference in the testing process.
  • Applicants should be able to demonstrate knowledge of community-oriented policing, patrol operations, criminal investigations, report writing, and safety standards related to the use of vehicles, firearms, and other police equipment.
  • The department is currently considering sponsoring qualified applicants for Utah P.O.S.T. training, with preference for applicants who have successfully passed the National Police Officer Selection Test (NPOST) exam.

Compensation and Benefits starting wage for full-time officers (without experience) is $27.13/hour. Starting wage for candidates with law enforcement experience may be negotiated at the discretion of the Chief of Police. Full insurance benefits are effective immediately. Police officers generally have opportunities for overtime. Benefits include city paid retirement in the URS system, city paid medical and dental insurance, sick-time accrual, long-term disability insurance, $100 per month uniform allowance, and 12 paid holidays per year (156 hours).

Physical Demands and Work Environment: Lehi City Police Department Officers generally work 7 shifts of 12 hours per pay period with two additional hours within the pay period, totaling 86 hours every two weeks. Tasks require a variety of physical activities periodically involving muscular strain related to walking, standing, stooping, sitting, and reaching. Essential functions require talking, hearing, and seeing. Mental application utilizes memory for details, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem-solving. Frequent travel required in course of performing portions of job functions. Elements of the job pose various degrees of hazard uncertainty common to law enforcement. Police officers must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, police officers work in outside weather conditions. Police officers occasionally work near moving mechanical parts, in precarious places, with firearms ammunition and explosives and are occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, extreme cold, and vibration.
