The Principal Financial Analyst for Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) plays a leadership role on the company’s FP&A team, the primary objective of which is to deliver deep financial insight to senior management to inform strategic and tactical business decisions The FP&A team plays a central role in the development of the company’s strategy, translating that strategy into a financial plan and budget, and tracking execution against the strategy.

This role demands a strategic thinker with a strong financial, analytic, and interpersonal skill-set, including the ability to: identify business opportunities and risks based on market dynamics and the company’s strengths and weaknesses; link the strategic goals of the business to expectations for financial delivery and resource needs; make recommendations for exploiting opportunities and/or mitigating risks to delivery of the company’s financial plan; collaboratively problem-solve with colleagues at all levels of the organization, including senior management; and mentor and guide less experienced FP&A colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the cultivation of a high-performance culture within the team by executing against deliverables and providing coaching and mentorship to less experienced colleagues.
  • Contribute to the development of company strategy by providing insight that informs the impact of strategic decisions, including research into market dynamics, trends, and opportunities.
  • Play a leadership role in the annual development of the Financial Plan, working collaboratively with colleagues at all levels of the organization including senior management, to ensure financial targets reflect the business’ strategy. This includes:
  • Setting revenue targets and budgets that reflect the business’ strategic ambition and the resources needed to realize that ambition.
  • Developing robust sensitivity analyses to inform senior management of potential financial upside from opportunities and potential financial downside from key risks.
  • Writing communication materials and completing data templates as required by the Financial Planning process.
  • Update forecasts of the company’s financial KPIs each month.
  • Play a leadership role in the development of periodic senior-level financial performance reports, including the monthly update to the company’s parent and triannual report to the company’s Board of Directors.
  • Produce as needed senior-level financial communications, including the annual ratings agency presentation, content supporting the Group’s semi-annual earnings release, and the annual submission of financial plans to regulators.
  • Conduct insightful ad-hoc financial analyses as needed to inform business decisions.
  • Develop/review business cases for company initiatives/products as needed.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert, as needed, for Finance change initiatives.
  • Qualifications

    Education

    BA/BS with major/concentration in a business and/or quantitative discipline preferred but not necessary, e.g., Finance, Economics, Accounting, Actuarial, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering.

    Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Financial Analyst (CFA), MBA, or credentialed actuary (ASA or FSA) preferred, but not necessary.

    Experience/Knowledge

    4 years in finance, accounting, actuarial, or strategy, preferably within the life insurance industry, including 2 years in financial planning & analysis or strategy.

    Strong financial acumen, including the ability to link company strategy to expectations for financial delivery and resource requirements.

    Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate with colleagues at all levels of the organization.

    Strong leadership skills.

    Ability to coach and mentor less experienced colleagues.

    Strong written and oral communication skills.

    Demonstrated ability to work independently and establish priorities to meet tight deadlines.

    Detail-oriented while still being able to see the big picture.

    Flexibility when working with changing deliverables.

    Ability to manage ambiguity.

    Strong knowledge of IFRS and/or US Statutory accounting rules

    Strong knowledge of US Statutory capital rules

    Knowledge of actuarial concepts and principles.

    Familiarity with Solvency II and Bermuda Statutory accounting/capital rules helpful, but not necessary.

    Highly proficient at Excel and PowerPoint. Proficiency with Power BI, databases, and programming a plus.

    What’s in it for you?

    The expected hiring compensation range for this position is $101,300 - $139,250 annually.

    This role will be working in a hybrid environment with up to 3 days in office per week. Remote can be considered.

    The total compensation package for this position may include other elements, such as a sign-on bonus, long term incentives, and annual bonuses. This role is eligible to participate in the Legal & General America Annual Incentive Plan. The current target payment for the position is 20% of base salary, modified for corporate and individual performance. Bonuses are pro-rated based on start date. This role has 20 vacation days and 10 sick days that are accrued on a bi-weekly basis. Employees also have 9 paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
