The Legal Aid Society provides civil legal assistance to indigent residents of Orange County. Legal Aid has administered the Guardian ad Litem Program in Orange County for over 30 years. The GAL Program provides best interest representation to abused and neglected children who are the subjects of juvenile dependency court proceedings.
Position Description: The Case Coordinator will (1) assist staff and pro bono attorney GALs with casework; (2) serve as a Case Coordinator working directly with the children represented by the GAL Program, responsibilities to include visiting/observing the children, assisting staff and pro bono attorney GALs with investigations, treatment meetings, planning conferences, and locating community resources and services that the child may need. Must provide own transportation. Must provide own secure internet when work is conducted remotely.
Special Skills/ Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in sociology, social work, psychology, child development, education, communications, or a related social science; 1 year experience in a program in social service, counseling, teaching, or supervising volunteers. Child welfare experience preferred. Additional language skills, particularly Spanish or Creole, highly desired.
Time Requirement: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m., with scheduling flexibility to accommodate child and family visits. Telework available.
