Position Description

LASBC seeks to hire an Immigration Staff Attorney in its Plantation office. Working as a part of an interdisciplinary team, the attorney will represent unaccompanied minors; non-citizen minors who were abused, neglected, or abandoned by one or both parents; immigrant children not living with their parents; asylum; and special immigrant juvenile status before the Immigration Court and the Department of Homeland Security and will be cross-trained in other areas of immigration.

Job Duties:

· Provide individual immigration consultations and know-your-rights presentations to immigrant communities.

· Represent clients before various agencies, including immigration court, ICE, USCIS, and state and federal courts, in applications and advocacy for relief from removal.

· Engage with allied community organizations, including presenting community education programs;

· Participate in the preparation of grant and billing reports.

Qualifications

· Active membership in a State Bar (Does not have to be Florida);

· The attorney will have a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school,

· No experience is necessary willing to train

· Experience serving low-income communities preferred but not required;

· The attorney will have demonstrated the capacity to exhibit appropriate sensitivity to and empathy for children who have survived traumatic experiences and will be passionate about serving immigrants and vulnerable populations;

· Ability to work effectively with a large caseload and function professionally within a highly stressful environment;

· Strong organizational and time management skills;

· Ability to work independently at times and also as an effective part of a team, including other attorneys, support staff, volunteers, and community partners;

· Excellent written and communication skills;

· An ability to balance and manage a variety of responsibilities.

· Strong commitment to social, economic, and racial justice.

· Ability to work effectively across multiple teams.

· Ability to speak Spanish or another language in addition to English a plus

Salary and Benefits

This is an exempt position full-time position. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience starting at $65,000. The salary for the successful applicant may be significantly higher based on the applicant’s years of experience. LASBC offers a generous benefits package that includes health, vision, dental, and life insurance (for the employee), retirement, 13 paid holidays, and generous annual and sick leave allotments starting at 15 days of vacation and 12 days of sick leave per year—good work-life balance.
