Employment Terms: Summer position (July 1st - August 9th)

About LEEP Academy

LEEP Dual Language Academy Charter School opened its doors in August 2019 as the first charter school in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. We use the research-based 90:10 model of Spanish language immersion that helps all students achieve in all subjects while also becoming bilingual and bi-literate. In the 2023-24 school year, we will grow to serve students in grades K-5, using instructional techniques from high-performing charter schools and the best dual language programs in the nation.

LEEP Academy is led by an experienced board and leadership team, with big ambitions to grow and replicate over time. We make every hiring decision with an eye on future leadership potential. Our school is located at 54th Street and 5th Avenue, in a private building with a long-term lease.

About Summer Boost

In an effort to support our students with significant academic needs, LEEP Dual Language Academy Charter School will provide Summer Boost academic and enrichment programming for Summer 2024. We will be prioritizing LEEP students in rising 1st through rising 5th grade that are Promotion in Doubt (PID), being retained for the 24-25 school year, and students that require additional academic intervention. Teachers will use the Lavinia curriculum to provide students with a thorough understanding of Math and ELA. Teachers will have a (3) day pre-program training from July 1st to July 5th (July 4th off) and (2) mandatory PDs at 12pm each week that may be in person or virtual. We are currently hiring for teachers for Rising 1st-Rising 5th graders.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively plan and implement Lavinias Summer Boost curriculum to foster scholars academic growth from 8:00am-12:00pm to a class of approximately 25 students. Note the expected work day would be 8:00am-2:00pm Monday-Friday for the duration of the program. The last two hours of the day are reserved for professional development, prep time and data review to drive in instruction
  • Create a positive, achievement-oriented, and structured learning environment that motivates and supports all students
  • Conduct Lavinia Pre-assessment at the beginning of the program and the Post-assessment at the end of the program, with the expectation of improved data for all students
  • Attend and participate in all Professional Development trainings and coaching sessions through LEEP and Lavinia in accordance with the Summer Boost program
  • Use special education and differentiation strategies to support students learning needs
  • Adjust instruction based on student data
  • Communicate with students families on student progress
  • Maintain a positive, safe, and engaging classroom environment

Qualifications

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • An M.A., Ed.M or masters degree in the relevant content area, preferred
  • New York State Certification for relevant grades and content area, or demonstrated process towards receiving reciprocity for certification from other states
  • A minimum of 2 years of demonstrated success as a full-time elementary/middle school classroom teacher
  • Demonstrated success working in a high-performing, urban school setting preferred
  • Preferred candidates who have a desire to work with a diverse population of students and linguistic backgrounds
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching through continuous learning and data analysis
  • Exceptional organizational and planning skills
  • Superior communication skills
  • An ability to work collaboratively

Stipend: $1500-$2500 PER WEEK, for four weeks (this includes training days). Please make sure you are available for all 23 days of the program. Any absent days would be prorated and adjusted from the stipend.
