Job Description

Summary of Role

The Reading Interventionist is responsible for providing supplemental reading and language instruction to struggling readers in grades K-6, with a focus on students in grades K-3. Under the direction of campus leadership, the Reading Interventionist will provide individual- and small-group instruction using best practices in reading acquisition. The Reading Interventionist will work with the campus Reading Specialist and classroom teachers to monitor and ensure that students are meeting ambitious reading growth goals.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Delivery of Reading Intervention Services

  • Provides pull-out and push-in interventions for struggling readers (both, with and without IEPs).
  • Monitors the progress of students -- formally and informally -- to adjust instruction and student grouping.
  • Is accountable for students’ literacy growth and increases each individual student’s literacy achievement.
  • Maintains student records, reports, evaluations, inventories, and tests of all students on caseload.
  • Completes all progress monitoring and benchmark assessments on time as scheduled by administration.
  • Creates a positive, achievement-oriented learning environment.

Collaboration

  • Participates in evidence-based identification of students in need of literacy intervention. 
  • Assists in setting goals and planning interventions for struggling readers. 
  • Collaborates and communicates with the students' classroom teachers and specialized personnel (e.g., Reading Specialist, Special Education staff, EL teachers) to align intervention and classroom supports.
  • Reflects on successes and areas of growth as a teacher, seeks to improve performance, and responds to feedback.

Requirements

  • Have a firm commitment to upholding the school’s mission and Core Values.
  • Minimum of two years of experience teaching Reading with a strong record of student achievement.
  • Knowledge of and experience with administering and analyzing formal and informal reading assessments.
  • Demonstrated success in raising literacy achievement levels through the use of a range of research-based instructional practices, approaches, methods, curriculum materials, and interventions.
  • Experience working with diverse populations of students, parents, and families. 
  • Ability to self-reflect on teaching practices and be responsive to feedback.
  • Ability to schedule and prioritize work independently. 
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and learning through professional development.
