Lee County School System is Hiring a Behavioral Specialist Near Leesburg, GA

Job Description – Behavior Specialist(10-month calendar)Position Purpose: Under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent and the Superintendent, to collaborate with the district MTSS Coordinator, regular education teachers, school psychologists, counselors, mental health agencies, school social workers, and caretakers to determine appropriate positive behavioral supports for students who are displaying behavioral or learning difficulties.
Essential Job Functions
  • Attend school leadership meetings, PBiS meetings, manifestation meetings, MTSS meetings if requested, and parent conferences in order to provide positive support for the teachers and students.
  • Provide behavior strategies and plans to assist the classroom teacher/school in providing positive behavior supports for students exhibiting behavioral or learning problems.
  • Review information from the teachers, students, parents, counselors, administrators, and case history to gain information about the student’s behaviors and academic performance.
  • Observe students at the request of school personnel; debrief teachers and students about findings and produce strategies for trial.
  • Review students’ plans at 504/MTSS meetings; assist in revising plans as needed.
  • Guide teachers, providing examples (including modeling and coaching) on how to implement strategies.
  • Assist in classroom and debrief with the teacher as appropriate.
  • Ability to set goals and determine how to accomplish results with few or no guidelines.
  • Assist in developing interventions, Functional Behavior Assessments, and Behavior Intervention Plans for the purpose of providing a safe and effective educational environment for students with challenging behaviors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
  • Knowledge of appropriate interventions to address student behavioral needs.
  • Knowledge of Georgia’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

  • Certification held through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (Intervention Specialist Endorsement preferred).
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Previous experience working with students with varying behavioral concerns.
  • Mindset training preferred.
