Purpose of Job:

To equip teachers to more effectively meet the learning needs of all students.

Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities: The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned as needed.

General Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Share, model, and utilize best instructional practices in all subjects
  • Lead and sustain job embedded professional development
  • Supportive of teacher professional growth in a non-evaluative manner
  • Observe and provide peer assistance with individual growth
  • Utilize coaching strategies in working with teachers and appropriate others
  • Regularly analyze student data to determine needs and ensure progress
  • Respond to teacher and student needs
  • Responsible for reporting any reasonable suspicions related to a child’s health or welfare as a result of abuse or neglect to the appropriate state/community agency, as well as the principal
  • Facilitate teachers’ understanding of assessments for individual student programming
  • Assist teachers in appropriate use of assessment data
  • Assist teachers in matching curriculum to student needs
  • Assist in building a collaborative network within the school to maximize student achievement, including such areas as Title I, ELL, and Inclusion
  • Provide extension learning for students who need acceleration or intervention (through EXTEND or Enrichment)
  • Assist in providing flexible learning opportunities for students
  • Continuously pursue updated information and research in all fields
  • Expand teachers’ use of a variety of resources to improve instruction
  • Serve as a resource to principals in identifying appropriate instructional strategies, placement, and program needs for students
  • Serve as a member of the Professional Intervention Team (PIT) at the school level as needed
  • Ensure that the use of the district’s resources (time, money, people) are used in the most strategic and effective way possible
  • Abide by the Tennessee Teacher Code of Ethics

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Project a positive image of the LSSD at all times and support district goals
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of district information
  • Support the effective delivery of a high quality of education for all students
  • Provide exceptional levels of professional support and service to staff and public
  • May operate a motor vehicle to conduct various work activities
  • Successful completion of Criminal Justice fingerprint/background process and drug screen

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Master’s degree (preferred)
  • Valid professional license with appropriate certification
  • Three years or more of successful teaching experience
  • Ability to work effectively with teachers and students. Must demonstrate adaptability and flexibility.
  • Exhibit effective workshop presentation skills
  • Possess a deep understanding of district curriculum and assessment, components of reading, and a strong foundation in core curricular areas
  • Sound communication skills and able to establish trusting relationships
  • Continual learner with demonstrated leadership skills
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Principal, Director of Teaching and Learning, or Director of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable

Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for active light work in a classroom setting.
