The Opportunity

Leavitt Machinery is looking for an energetic General Manager, Service and Operations to join our team in Tukwila or Lakewood, Washington. As the General Manager, you will be responsible for the overall support and direction of the Service and Operations department, identifying potential business opportunities and developing strategies to realize potentials while maintaining existing profitable relationships.

You will also be accountable for leading the Service and Operations team, ensuring profitability at each facility in each region. Performance will be measured by the degree to which you effectively oversee all service-related functions, resulting in productivity, fulfilled employees, profitability, growth, and customer satisfaction.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

As the General Manager, Service and Operations your key responsibilities will include:

  • Coach, develop and drive the Service Management team to higher levels of success
  • Oversee all Service related operations, administration, and business development.
  • Identify/develop/direct improvement initiatives to increase operational profitability
  • Develop and implement annual Business Plan initiatives and objectives with the Service Management team to achieve departmental and organizational objectives
  • Participate in key customer meetings and strategy sessions; overseeing the Service department’s role in relation to the needs of the other Business Units
  • Create a performance culture by providing the support and tools to ensure team success
  • Identify and execute new business opportunities through leveraging existing infrastructure
  • Ensure compliance with standards within the department to ensure a consistent customer experience, both locally and regionally
  • Oversee and direct key performance measures (profitability, customer service, synergies/relationships) for the Service department
  • Ensures that all corporate safety initiatives and programs are strictly followed throughout the department
  • Support the company health and safety program, including all its initiatives, programs and regulations, ensuring that toolbox meetings, safety meetings and work observations are being conducted on schedule

Required Skills & Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills, knowledge, and competencies:

  • Post-secondary degree in Business or a related discipline, or relevant work experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required
  • Excellent project management skills are required
  • Results-oriented with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in parallel
  • Commitment to working in a team environment, with established team building abilities
  • Strong leadership ability with a demonstrated track record of successfully partnering with internal and external customers
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with superior interpersonal and relationship management skills
  • Strong influencing and collaboration skills
  • Superior negotiation skills to garner win-win outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to be both strategic and tactical in rolling out programs and initiatives that are aligned with overall organizational goals
  • Proven experience working with Union organizations
  • Mechanical knowledge of the heavy machinery industry is an asset
  • Strong sales and marketing background
  • A strong customer focus and a desire to achieve results
  • Ability to travel as needed
