How You Will Make an Impact

The Teacher will plan, organize and implement an appropriate personalized instructional program in a learning environment that guides, supports, and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential, completion of diploma requirements and post-secondary transition plan. This Position will collaborate with other Instructional Staff and school personnel. This position reports to the Principal or the Designee.


RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  • Deliver engaging and relevant lesson plans in accordance with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) or other relevant standards.
  • Deliver effective instruction to diverse groups of students, adapting teaching methods to cater to different learning styles and abilities.
  • Maintain a well-organized and safe school environment, managing student behavior and ensuring a conducive atmosphere for learning.
  • Regularly assess student progress, provide constructive feedback, and maintain accurate records of student performance.
  • Identify and address the unique needs of individual students, including those with special educational requirements, by providing differentiated instruction and support.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and administrators to improve teaching practices, curriculum development, and student outcomes.
  • Maintain open and regular communication with parents and guardians to keep them informed about student’s progress and address any concerns.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices, teaching strategies, and educational trends.
  • Manage education resources, including materials, textbooks, technology, and supplies.
  • Ensure compliance with state and district policies and regulations, including reporting attendance, grading, and participating in required assessments.
  • Encourage and engage in extracurricular activities, such student study teams, student retention meetings to support student development and interests.
  • Follow established policies and procedures for reporting incidents (e.g., child abuse, substance abuse, harassment, and violence).
  • Perform administrative duties, responsibilities, and activities as assigned. These may be changed or modified from time to time.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Texas teaching standards, high school credits, graduation requirements, interventions, and alternative educational programs, including independent study.
  • Knowledge of School culture, educational services, and understanding of the “dropout students” population, familiarity with their unique needs and challenges, and help students with social emotional obstacles to achieve their academic goals and increase high school graduation rates.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse student learning needs, including students at-risk of academic failure.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, parents, staff members, and community representatives in providing a rigorous educational program.
  • Ability to work effectively with all racial, ethnic, linguistic, disability, diverse culture and socioeconomic groups.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, including giving clear and concise instructions, using academic language, an appropriate delivery level, listening without bias, and providing proper feedback/reinforcement.
  • Ability to make independent judgments, meet deadlines and maintain accurate records.
  • Self-sufficient, strong interpersonal skills, and focused on excellent customer service.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, specific subject area (i.e. degree in mathematics) or related field from regionally accredited college or university is required.
  • Valid Texas Teaching certificate with endorsement for subject area and level assigned or
  • Have held a long-term (more than 60 days) substitute placement in the content area and eligible to apply for teaching certificate requirements or
  • Enrolled in a State approved teacher’s internship program or student teaching or state accredited teacher preparation program is required.
  • ESL certification is required.
  • Proficient skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other educational technology and applications.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Mental Demands: high workflow management, high project coordination, and high people engagement.
  • Finger Dexterity: primarily using the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.
  • Talking: especially where one must convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Average Hearing: hearing average or typical conversations and receiving ordinary information.
  • Average Visual Abilities: normal acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents and operate office equipment or machinery.
  • Frequent multi-tasking, changing of task priorities, repetitious exacting work required.
  • Prolonged period sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Working in a low moderate noise environment with frequent deadline pressures.
