IT SPECIALIST
DUNCAN, SC - PLANT (7pm-5:45a)

As a member of the Information Technology team, the IT Specialist will be responsible for technical work, providing direct technical support to others using computer equipment for office applications, including desktop configurations, performing hardware and software installation and maintenance, and adapting existing database software, spreadsheets, and other programs to best meet end user needs.

Incumbents in this classification install and configure equipment and software, perform routine maintenance on the equipment, and troubleshoot problems to help resolve hardware/software issues.

The Role:

Your work will include, but not be limited to:

  • Serving as the System Administrator in the absence of the IT Manager
  • Responding to employee questions in person and via phone on all company supported applications.
  • Determining source of computer problems (hardware, software, user access, etc.).
  • Serving as liaison between staff and the technology department to resolve issues.
  • Managing backup, security, and user help systems.
  • Consulting with users to assess computing needs and system requirements.
  • Testing programs or databases, correct errors and make necessary modifications.
  • Planning, coordinating, and implementing security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification, or disclosure.
  • Installing and testing new products and improvements to computer systems, such as the installation of new databases.
  • Training users and answering questions.
  • Establishing and calculating optimum values for database parameters, using manuals and calculator.
  • Specifying users and user access levels for each segment of database.
  • Developing data models describing data elements and how they are used, following procedures, and using pen, template or computer software.
  • Developing methods for integrating different products so they work properly together, such as customizing commercial databases to fit specific needs.
  • Providing staff and users with assistance solving computer related problems, such as malfunctions and program problems.
  • Testing, maintaining, and monitoring computer programs and systems, including coordinating the installation of computer programs and systems.
  • Coordinating and linking the computer systems within an organization to increase compatibility and so information can be shared.
  • Expanding or modifying system, as required, to serve new purposes or improve work flow.
  • Determining computer software or hardware needed to set up or alter system.
  • Diagnosing hardware and software problems and replacing defective components.
  • Performing data backups and disaster recovery operations.
  • Maintaining and administering computer networks and related computing environments, including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations.
  • Planning, coordinating, and implementing network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware.
  • Monitoring the performance of computer systems and networks and coordinating computer network access and use.
  • Performing routine network startup and shutdown procedures and maintaining control records.
  • Designing, configuring, and testing computer hardware, networking software and operating system software.
  • Recommending changes to improve systems and network configurations and determining hardware or software requirements related to such changes.
  • Conferring with network users about how to solve existing system problems.
  • Monitoring network performance in order to determine whether adjustments need to be made, and to determine where changes will need to be made in the future.
  • Evaluating and resolving user problems; identifying and obtaining appropriate resources for the resolution of complex problems; correcting routine problems by making minor repairs to computer equipment and/or entering specialized commands or data into systems; contacting appropriate resources for additional assistance.
  • Instructing computer system users in the use of computer equipment and of computer applications; answering questions and assisting in resolving problems regarding the methods and procedures for using computer applications.
  • Coordinating installation of new hardware/software; installs, tests, and monitoring the operation of computer hardware and software; configuring hardware and software to meet departments’ needs.
  • Administering LANs/WANs; establishing procedures to back up data stored in computers and maintaining efficient operation of LANs/WANs; may serve as department computer access security officer.
  • Providing server support and maintenance; using various utilities to trouble-shoot, repairing, and checking configuration of servers.
  • Adapting existing database software, spreadsheets, and other programs to best meet departmental or end user needs.
  • Maintaining various records and documentation for department computer systems; may write straightforward report generation programs or other simple computer code.

Your Qualifications:

  • AS degree in Information Systems or any related field
  • Minimum of 2 years IT experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Must be willing to work extended periods of time or varying shift hours
  • Must be JLG certified
  • Must have knowledge of the functions and operations of computers, commercial computer software including database software, and of local area networks (LANs), including hardware/software installation.
  • Must have knowledge of the functions and operations of computers, commercial computer software including database software, and of local area networks (LANs), including hardware/software installation.
  • Knowledge of Web site layout, composition, design, and management.
  • Knowledge of Web site authoring software, methods for creating dynamic content, and graphics applications commonly used in Web site development.
  • Knowledge of the general principles of office automation, and computer systems analysis.
  • Knowledge of a variety of hardware, operating systems, and related software used by the hiring department.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Sever 2003 in the Active Directory environment.
  • Knowledge of operating systems such as Microsoft XP, AS400, and Learpics.
  • Knowledge of cabling and network hardware (switches, punch down panes).
  • Knowledge of telephone systems (Wiring and troubleshooting).
  • Knowledge of office equipment to include printers, copiers, and fax machines.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve user needs and problems; interpret and apply information.
