LEAGUE FOR THE BLIND AND DISABLED INC is Hiring a Youth Services Coordinator: Part-Time Temporary Near Fort Wayne, IN

Reports To: Director of Programs & Services

Hours of Work: Part-time, non-exempt - up to 29 hours per week

POSITION SUMMARY: The incumbent: 1. Provides coordination and support to include youth with disabilities in age-appropriate, inclusive, community youth programs, 2. Conducts and assists family networking activities to encourage the development of peer/mentor relationships, 3. Coordinates and assists in advocacy training for teens, parents, and youth professionals

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Service Delivery

· Tracks and monitors consumer progress;

· Provides information and referral services;

· Participates in individual and systems advocacy activities;

· Coordinates community-based activity experiences for consumers;

· Conducts staff training for community-based partners;

· Provides individual peer support;

· Organizes a family networking activity

· Conducts and coordinates consumer/parent/youth professional rights and systems training programs

Public Relations/Marketing

· Conducts public education and awareness activities;

· Provides community organizations with training related to disability issues;

· Maintain positive relationships with the consumer community, agencies, government entities, co-workers, and other professionals.

Administrative/Clerical

· Activates, tracks, and inactivates consumer files using the center’s policies & procedures;

· Maintains accurate and up-to-date consumer files;

· Tracks community activities, and information and referral contacts

QUALIFICATIONS, REQUIREMENTS and DEMANDS:

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common professional journals, legislation/regulations, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands and fingers, handle, or feel, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and reach with hands or arms. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

EQUIPMENT OPERATION REQUIREMENTS: Ability to independently operate, or learn to operate, TTY and voice phones. Ability to independently operate, or learn to independently operate League office equipment such as the fax/copy machine to perform job-related duties and assignments. Ability to independently operate or learn to independently operate The League’s computer network and software to perform job-related duties and assignments.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to travel independently: 1. Frequently throughout The League’s service region, and 2. Occasionally in an interstate region. Must have dependable transportation to meet these requirements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level is usually moderate.

SCHEDULE DEMANDS: Must be available for work during regularly scheduled business hours. Must be available evenings and weekends as work demands require.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Driver's License
