The Spirit of the Position:

The Lot Attendant at LAZ Parking stationed at the Oakland Medical Center, your role is pivotal in ensuring smooth parking operations and providing exceptional assistance to patients and hospital employees. Your responsibilities encompass a range of duties aimed at facilitating efficient parking access and addressing customer needs promptly and courteously.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Assisting Patients and Employees: Offer support to patients and hospital staff as they enter and exit the parking garage. Provide guidance on parking procedures, assist with accessing parking payment kiosks (POF machines), and inform patients of the hourly parking rates.
  2. Customer Service: Deliver excellent customer service by addressing inquiries, providing directions, and offering assistance to patients and employees. Maintain a compassionate and helpful demeanor in all interactions.
  3. Phone Assistance: Responsively handle customer calls using a designated flip phone. Address inquiries, provide information, and assist with any issues or concerns raised over the phone promptly and professionally.
  4. Traffic Management: Open car entry lanes during peak hours to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic in and out of the parking garage. Ensure safe and efficient traffic management to prevent congestion and maintain accessibility.
  5. Equipment Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot parking equipment such as ticket machines, entry gates, and exit gates. Address minor technical issues promptly to minimize disruptions to parking operations.
  6. Key Management: Maintain a log of keys for vehicles parked in the garage, ensuring secure storage and accurate tracking of keys. Facilitate the retrieval of keys for authorized personnel as needed.
  7. Voucher Management: Record and document invalid vouchers, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting of voucher usage. Maintain meticulous records to support billing and reconciliation processes.
  8. Equipment Maintenance Reporting: Identify and report faulty parking equipment to team leads or management promptly.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on empathy and patience when assisting patients.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in managing keys and recording voucher usage.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Skills:

  • Willingness to be flexible, work multiple facility locations. Ability to handle challenging and at times, emotionally charged situations. Ability to speak, read, and comprehend the English language. Must be able to make decisions independently and stay firm on decisions made (not easily persuaded).

Physical Demands:

  • Standing and walking for long periods of time (95 to 100% of the time) Lifting and moving parking equipment Sweeping and changing signage when needed. No sitting is allowed unless on break and off property. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
