Layline Automation is Hiring a (Utility) Systems Engineering Director Near Sacramento, CA

Summary

The Systems Engineering Director is responsible for leading and managing all systems engineering services projects. These projects are SCADA, networking, controls, software, and utility intensive. As the leader of Systems Engineering the role includes responsibility for project delivery, team implementation and development, technical innovation and financial performance for the line of business. This role will collaborate significantly with other internal line of business leads to ensure the successful delivery of projects. This leader will be responsible for developing and maintaining an engaging and fulfilling work environment for the teams under management.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a strategic vision for the Systems Engineering line of business.
  • Align systems engineering projects/initiatives with overall business goals.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and regularly evaluate progress towards business goals.
  • Lead large team of technical resources in the execution of client projects across multiple disciplines. (controls, software, SCADA, networking)
  • Oversee all Systems Engineering projects.
  • Develop strong relationships with key clients and stakeholders and ensure client satisfaction through the delivery of high-quality engineering services.
  • Work with clients and project leads to develop project requirements, scope and design and oversee implementation of solutions.
  • Develop RFP responses for engineering services work, including development of resource plans and Statements of Work (SOW) for project execution.
  • Collaborate with other lines of business leads within the company to deliver projects successfully.
  • Recruit, train and mentor a high-performing engineering team while continually evaluating and managing team performance.
  • Manage project budgets and delivery based on SOW and ensure work is within project scope and delivered on time.
  • Identify areas of revenue growth and business cost optimization.
  • Generate regular reports and communication on line of business performance for senior management.
  • Ensure consistent use of management tools and thorough documentation of all projects and initiatives.
  • Attend and present at relevant industry events and conferences.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Highly desired experience in power utility, SCADA, networking, OT
  • Excellent strategic, leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent client management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills
  • High attention to detail with an ability to self-manage and solve challenging problems independently
  • Expert knowledge in the principles of information systems design, especially related to multi-protocol, multi-platform client/server environments
  • Expert knowledge in the principles and practices of control systems, software development, networking and SCADA system architecture
  • Capable of traveling up to 40% of the time to meet with clients, oversee project installations, and attend industry events.

Education and Work Experience

  • 10 years Engineering, OT and IT experience, preferably with a focus on SCADA systems
  • 5 years experience managing large teams 
  • BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field; (Master’s degree preferred)

Physical Requirements

Work is typically performed in an environment, using simple, easy muscular movements, involving only the handling of light materials, tools, or equipment in easy work positions, and with no special speed requirements or long stretches of exertion. Vision requirements for this job include close vision and the ability to focus. Remaining in a stationary position and in front of a computer screen for prolonged periods will be necessary. Repeating motions such as typing, that may include wrists, hands and/or fingers are necessary.
