Job Description
1. Assesses and evaluates student's health, and the degree of significance of health problems on student educational progress.
2. Utilizes effective techniques to counsel students, parents and school personnel and plan action for eliminating, minimizing or accepting health problems.
3. Assumes a leadership role in the identification of students with health needs that interfere with effective learning.
4. Provides programs for the prevention and control of disease.
5. Coordinates health services with other health disciplines in order to fulfill a total health education program.
6. Coordinates health services with community health programs.
7. Observes school facilities and recommends modifications necessary to maintain optimum health and safety of students and school personnel.
8. Responds to frequently encountered health and social problems, such as: child abuse and neglect; alcohol and other drug use; nutrition problems and eating disorders; teen pregnancy, etc.
9. Collaborates/cooperates with com m unity providers and state agencies to meet the health and social service needs of students.
10. Organizes, carries out and reports on mandated health screening programs and makes appropriate referrals and follow-up on vision, hearing, and scoliosis screening failures.
11. Acts as a resource to the student, parent, principal and teachers in matters pertaining to health.
12. Demonstrates knowledge of, and ability to administer medications appropriately, In keeping with school policy on administration of medication in the school.
13. Assesses family history and home situations which may affect a student’s health via home visits when necessary.
14. Completes home evaluations for special education C.O.R.E. evaluations. Participates in team evaluations and conferences on all children with medical problems.
15. Maintains an accurate health record on each student.
16. Documents First Aid and illness care provided to staff and students. Completes accident reports, and maintains a log of health room activity.
17. Screens all new students to ensure compliance with immunization laws, and makes recommendations for exclusion of students for lack of compliance to school administration.
18. Recommends exclusion and monitors readmission to school for students with infectious or communicable diseases.
19. Maintains First Aid supplies and equipment in n appropriate location in the school.
20. Performs other nursing duties as assigned.
Requirements
1. Graduate of a Professional Nursing Program approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
2. Current license as a Registered Professional Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
3. 1 - 3 years experience in pediatrics, community health or related field.
4. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Required
5. Eligibility for Certification in School Nursing by the Massachusetts Department of Education required.
6. Proficient in English
7. Bilingual Preferred

Pay: $53,000.00 - $84,000.00 per year
