Lawrence County Community Action Partnership is Hiring an ACTS Driver Near Castle, PA

Position Summary
This position requires safe and efficient operation of paratransit vehicles for the purpose of transporting passengers to a prescribed destination. The highest level of customer service, passenger sensitivity, and confidentiality is expected which meets ACTS’ transportation programs’ requirements.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Obtain vehicle assignment and shift start times for the following business day through contacting Dispatch each afternoon between 4:00pm – 5:30pm.
Before starting shift, perform pre-trip walk-around vehicle inspection and document findings on the Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVI). Immediately notify Dispatch of any vehicle deficiencies found during the pre-trip inspection so that an alternate vehicle can be assigned for the shift.
Completes all required forms accurately, completely, and professionally to include, but not limited to: Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVI), Manifest Cover Sheets, and Incident Reports.
Interact with an assigned electronic tablet in order to: record vehicle mileage at shift start and end as well at each passenger stop, receive trip assignments, utilize the GPS navigation feature, record all completed trips, no-shows, and passenger fare types.
Receive fare payments from passengers and record the passenger’s ID number, fare amount paid, and fare type used, whether cash or through the balance account system, on the fare envelope to ensure accurate accounting of passenger fares at the end of shift.
Operate a wheelchair lift. All drivers must be willing and able to assist a passenger in a wheelchair, or using another mobility device, while navigating a variety of surfaces including up and down ramps built for use by the disabled. Drivers are responsible for ensuring that all passengers and their mobility devices are safely fastened into a secure position during transport through using all four (4) wheelchair tie downs and the shoulder/lap harnesses. Transporting passengers using mobility devices is a primary responsibility of all ACTS Drivers.
Provide “door-to-door assistance” to passengers requiring assistance. For passengers using a mobility device, such as a wheelchair, cane, walker, crutches, etc., the driver is expected to reasonably assist the passenger from the door of the pick-up address into the vehicle and then from the vehicle to the door of the destination address. At no time will a driver be authorized to carry a passenger or transport a passenger who uses a wheelchair up or down steps or across a threshold measuring more than several inches. Carry packages (ex. grocery bags) when requested by passenger. Load and unload the packages into the vehicle and carry to the door of the residence. Drivers shall radio Dispatch immediately to resolve conflicts or misunderstandings that arise when a client’s understanding of fares or scheduling are different than that stated on the driver’s tablet.
Ask for and view Senior Citizen Shared-Ride Program Identification Cards. The Senior ID Cards are issued through the PA Lottery Program. Driver Licenses and other governmental ID cards that include a passenger’s date of birth are also acceptable.
All Drivers must be willing and able to utilize two-way cellular radios to communicate with Dispatch. Drivers must always keep the company two-way cellular radio and their electronic tablet in hearing distance during their shift, except for during unpaid break periods.
Drivers are prohibited from soliciting tips from passengers and from accepting a gift or tip from a passenger that exceeds a few dollars in worth. The driver must also notify Management of the occurrence using an Incident Report.
Attend all training as required by ACTS’ management.
Daily, all drivers are responsible for keeping their vehicles neat by picking up trash and sweeping the floor. This should be done during down times during the course of the day.
Drivers must fuel vehicles during down times during course of their work shift, using designated fuel cards for their vehicles. Vehicle fluids must be checked, usually every other day. Recording of fueling and fluid checks must be made on the manifest cover sheets.
Exercise sound judgement in an emergency situation. Notify Dispatch immediately in the event of a vehicle accident, property damage, or in the case of any medically urgent situations occurring on the vehicle. Drivers must carry copies of the ACTS Incident Report on their clipboards and complete them before the end of their shift if any out-of-the-ordinary events occur during the course of their shift.
All Drivers must be willing and able to work during any of ACTS’ regular operating hours or as assigned by a Supervisor or by a Dispatcher.
Position Objective
Provide door-to-door transportation services for passengers in the best manner possible for people from different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
Qualifications
Drivers will be required to submit to employer-paid FBI-Fingerprinting, Act 33 and 34 clearances (Child Abuse and Criminal Record Check) and to a Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Record Check. Drivers will be required to pass an employer-paid pre-hire DOT Physical Examination as well as FTA approved drug and alcohol tests.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described in this section are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. Updated: July 31, 2019 - 3 - While performing the duties described herein, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, lift/carry up to 50 lbs., usually up to 25 lbs. multiple times throughout shift. Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and driving is required. Frequent climbing of steps in and out of vehicle and assisting passengers to and from the doors of their destinations is also required. Drivers will be required to bend, twist, stoop, crouch, crawl, squat and kneel reach forward and reach overhead. Simple grasping of both right and left hand is required and occasional pushing and pulling of up to a 400 lb. person in a wheelchair may be required. Drivers must be able to operate foot control with right foot. Eye/hand coordination and manual dexterity is necessary. Specific vision capabilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Work Location/Environment
This position requires travel over the entire Lawrence County area. Certain, trained employees may travel up to a 100-mile radius of Lawrence County and into neighboring counties. In the performance of their duties, Drivers may be exposed to a variety of weather conditions and will be expected to perform all duties regardless. The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate.
