POSITION SUMMARY

The Director Engineering provides leadership, mentoring, and technical guidance to the Process Engineering, Project Engineering, and Systems Engineering for all products, processes, and projects. By leading the team this position ensures:

  • The transition of new products and improvement processes from R&D, pilot plant to production.
  • Project Engineering team- projects are scoped, estimated, and executed on schedule and in budget.
  • System Engineering Team - systems are maintained, improved, and standardized.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

1. Process Engineering (40%):

  • Provide technical/managerial leadership on New Product Development (NPD) and Request for Laboratory Service (RLS) initiatives/projects to ensure the business benefits and schedules are achieved.
  • Provide technical/managerial leadership on Continuous Improvement initiatives/projects to ensure the business benefits and schedules are achieved, but not limited to Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing techniques.
  • Oversee team usage of FMEA methodology to evaluate risk in equipment design and process capabilities and make recommendations on equipment design and selection.
  • Ensures work instructions are developed and training of affected personnel on new and improved equipment and processes.
  • Ensure team troubleshoots problems associated with finished product production in assigned facilities; investigate root cause, develop, and implement corrective actions, and prevent reoccurrence through the development of long-term solutions.
  • Work with the EHS Department to ensure production processes and equipment designs and installations are following or exceed all applicable Federal, State, and local HS&E regulations and company policies/programs.
  • Analyze the production costs of products and ensure that cost standards are correct.

Project Engineering and Systems Engineering (40%):

  • Provide leadership to ensure that all capital and system projects are successfully implemented on time and on budget, meeting the performance criteria in the project justification.
  • Support the development and execution of a strategic Capital Plan that provides the equipment and facilities for achieving and maintaining Operational Excellence while meeting EH&S programs/policies.
  • Ensure team troubleshoots problems associated with finished product production in assigned facilities; investigate root cause, develop, and implement corrective actions, and prevent reoccurrence through the development of long-term solutions.
  • Ensures System engineering programs and processes are standardized across all North American facilities.
  • Maintain a Design Manual for all Laticrete manufacturing processes including alternatives based upon capacity and level of automation to be utilized by NA operations and international operations.

Management of Team & Department Strategy (20%)

  • Facilitate sharing of Best Practices between NA plant sites and international production facilities which are partially or totally owned, and ensure potential improvements are well identified.
  • Assess and Reward Performance: Provide team with timely, fair, and measured performance. assessments and feedback to foster growth. Provide reward and recognition for performance excellence or address performance concerns when necessary.
  • Build Team Culture: Consistently hold employees accountable for upholding the organization's values. Proactively manage unhealthy conflict among employees and take steps to prevent escalation. Foster an open environment where employees are empowered to provide constructive feedback and suggestions for improvement.
  • Drive team engagement and promote a positive and productive culture through enthusiasm leadership.
  • Communicate and Motivate: Communicate regular business updates. Convey information in a clear and timely manner. Listen carefully to the views and opinions of peers and colleagues.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, Mechanical, Civil Engineering or other applicable engineering discipline from an accredited college/university preferred.
  • 10 years of experience working in a process manufacturing environment.
  • 10 Years of demonstrated success leading diverse teams.
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification(s) preferred.

  • Able to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Able to manage/lead multiple assignments and projects simultaneously with shifting priorities, deadlines, and focus.
  • Must be adaptable and flexible.
  • High technical expertise

  • Leadership skills
  • Computer skills: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook. Mini-Tab or other similar software

Travel Requirement:

  • Must be able to travel up to 50%.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a passport for international travel.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must pass pre-employment physical.
  • Lift: Must be able to lift and/or carry a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Push/Pull: Must be able to push/pull __50__ pounds.
  • Stand: Must be able to stand 75% of the day.
  • Sitting: Must be able to sit 75% of the day.
  • Twisting/Bending: Must be able to twist/bend 25% of the day.
  • Squatting, Climbing and/or Crawling: Must be able to squat/climb/crawl 25% of the day.
