Larchmont Yacht Club Marine Facilities Director

The mission of the Larchmont Yacht Club is to instill and enhance an interest in yachting and the spirit of sportsmanship in members and their families. Encourage and provide programs for members and their families to promote and support yacht racing in the Corinthian spirit. Support a program of yacht racing events that meets the expectations of members and their families and enhances the reputation of the Club as a prestigious center of yachting and yacht racing. Encourage and provide compatible leisure and sporting activities, including intra and inter club competitions. Provide an active and enjoyable family-oriented social environment which members and their families will support, and in which they can participate, with pride and enthusiasm.

The Marine Facilities Department is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and management of all waterfront facilities. This includes a main dock that serves as a launching dock for our 4 24’-26’ launches as well as storage for member owned tenders and small sailboats, a work dock equipped with 4 hoists, electrical shore power stanchions, pump out, and fuel, and a Junior Sailing Dock that facilitates large spring, summer, and fall youth sailing programs. In addition, Marine Facilities manages a dry sail yard used for summer storage of member owned boats including Vipers, Etchells, Lasers, Optis, kayaks, and paddleboards, as well as an active boatyard used for club boat maintenance and member boat and trailer storage. Marine Facilities is also responsible for the management of 350 moorings as well as all navigational markers in Larchmont Harbor.

The Marine Facilities Director will be a core member of the Marine Facilities team. This person’s main function is to manage the launch operator staff, fuel dock attendants, the launches, the main launch dock, and the fuel dock along with the overall running of the department. This position manages four full-time and up to 25 seasonal employees. This entails hiring, training, and scheduling as well as maintaining routine maintenance logs and managing any repairs that need to be made to the dock or the boats. The Marine Facilities Director operates under the supervision of the Waterfront Director. The Marine Facilities Director will be expected to attend all committee and management meetings with the Waterfront Director.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing and supervising seasonal staff and be familiar with marine systems. Outboard and diesel experience is a plus. This person should also be dynamic and able to switch gears in a fast-paced environment where priorities can be subject to change. As a core member of the Larchmont Yacht Club team, this position will also require stepping out of the primary functions of the job to assist on other projects in the yard, on the docks, or in the harbor. This person will be a leader on the Marine Facilities staff and be expected to help guide and supervise our seasonal staff of dockhands, fuel dock attendants, and launch drivers. This job description is subject to change at the discretion of the Waterfront Director.

Responsibilities

  • Hiring, training, and scheduling launch and dock staff
  • Ensure all LYC launch standards are being met
  • Maintain up to date maintenance and vessel logs
  • Coordinate and/or perform necessary repairs and maintenance Page 1 of 2
  • Ensure all Coast Guard certified vessels are in compliance
  • Monitor the quality of docks, flags, cannons, bells etc. and schedule maintenance as needed
  • Ensure cooperation and support of the sailing department and Race Committee
  • Ensure safe operation of the fuel dock and that all safety standard are being met
  • Manage and track fuel dock operations
  • Track fuel consumption for each launch
  • Coordinate with department heads to meet membership and event needs
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the department

Requirements

  • Prior management experience at a Marina or Yacht Club
  • USCG Launch Operator License or higher.
  • Position Includes Working Nights, Weekends & Holidays.
  • Full time, year round position
  • Familiarity with G-Suite
  • CMM or CMO designation preferred but not required Compensation
  • $80,000.00 - 90,000.00/yr
