  • Hours of Work: Monday – Friday, 7:00am to 4:00pm. After-hours on-call duties on a rotational basis.

Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time, at-will, benefited Classified 8 level position. Starting salary range: $25.35 - $31.69/hour.

Job Summary: Core responsibilities of this position include:

The Technician, HVAC/R is responsible for providing a productive working and learning environment for students, faculty and staff by offering excellent customer service, professional appearance, timely work and expert communication skills. This job supports overall departmental projects including coordination and quality assurance of contracted services.

Essential Functions

Essential Functions: – this position is Non-Exempt, is eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA. This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative; other duties may be assigned).

Mechanical Install/Repair/Maintenance Functions:

  • Respond to request for service calls/work orders and make repairs as necessary.
  • Inspect and test systems/parts/equipment/fixtures to verify compliance with plans, operational status, and specifications or to detect need for repair/replacement.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and perform daily, weekly, and monthly inspections for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Install, operate, maintain, and repair indoor/outdoor fixtures, equipment, and systems.
  • Assemble, position, and mount components and parts following blueprints or manufacturer's
  • Order and maintain inventory/schedule for parts, services, equipment and tools for HVAC/R and BAS systems
  • Maintain kitchen equipment (i.e. stack steamer, grills, ovens, ice makers,)
  • Respond to emergency duties after hours when required
  • Conducts maintenance and repair of commercial heating and air conditioning equipment, kitchen equipment and or including building automation system, and other college equipment as needed.
  • Mechanical and site maintenance support such as support contractor installations, new construction and overall project support.
  • Prep jobsites including masking, relocating equipment, and protecting surfaces from work performed (i.e. dust, demolition, and installation).
  • Provides on the job training related to this technical expertise.

Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of mechanical repair with a working knowledge of maintenance of commercial buildings and equipment.
  • Ability to properly and safely operate equipment/power tools used in installation and maintenance tasks.
  • Trade skills in building construction practices and the ability to read and comprehend commercial building and equipment blueprints is required.
  • Trade skills in mechanical equipment installations, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Ability to interpret building blueprints, manufacture installation/repair instructions, and safety data sheets.
  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements and building code regulations; ability to learn, interpret and apply current pertinent federal, state and local laws and regulations.
  • Working knowledge and ability with personal computing applications
  • Ability to read, interpret and consider possible applications of equipment and building schematics, blueprints, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to support time-based requests
  • Ability to deal effectively and professionally with people
  • Knowledge of basic office equipment

Physical/Mental Demands: 

  • Frequently required to squat, bend, twist, kneel, sit, stand, climb, and extend arms over head
  • Work in environments and conditions above ceilings, on roofs, outside, inside, mechanical rooms, tunnels, labs, arena, hallways, meeting rooms and various campus facilities
  • Exposure to and use of safety equipment for outdoor weather extremes for extended periods
  • Exposure to and use of safety equipment for hazardous materials, biohazards, chemicals, electrical equipment, and fuels/petroleum products
  • May be required to climb ladders, maneuver in confined spaces, and work with tools/equipment in unconventional positions
  • Instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalence. 
  • Five (5) years of experience in HVAC/Refrigeration (i.e. boiler and chiller maintenance, temperature controls or combined HVAC/Refrigeration service and repair).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to meet the college insurance carrier requirements.
  • EPA certified universal refrigerant handling certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • WY licensed Journeyman HVAC/R
  • Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution in a related field of study
  • OSHA 10 certification or capability to attain certification
