Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time, benefited Managerial 3 level position. Starting salary range: $69,613.00 - $78,693.00/annually, depending upon experience.

Job Summary: Core responsibilities of this position include:

The Head Women’s Basketball Coach is a full-time benefited position responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Women’s Basketball Program. In addition, he/she will assist the Director of Athletics with the long-term planning and development of the program. The Head Women’s Basketball Coach provides effective leadership, recruitment, coaching and monitoring of student-athletes to encourage successful academic and team performance of the women’s basketball teams.

The head women’s basketball coach is responsible for working with the LCCC Foundation to raise operational and scholarship funds for the women’s basketball program. The head women’s basketball coach is also responsible for working with the Director of Athletics and Assistant Director of Athletics on other aspects relating to the Athletic Department.

Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need.

Essential Functions

Essential Functions: – this position is Exempt, i.e., is not eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA. This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative; other duties may be assigned).

Coaching:

Provide effective leadership to student athletes by giving training direction, encouragement, and motivation to prepare athletes for competitive events

Recruitment

Conduct student athlete recruitment including travel by meeting with recruits, parents/guardians, current coaches, current school, and other necessary parties

Facility and Equipment Management

Manage the facility by coordinating, planning, and communicating with all campus programs that utilize the RAC facilities to obtain equitable access that meets the needs of all programs including but is not limited to the Director of Athletics and Assistant Director of Athletics, Instructors, and other coaches.

Administrative Duties

Working to ensure all LCCC and NJCAA policies, procedures, and regulations are being followed and complied with by properly communicating and collaborating with all departments that have influence on such matters.

Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of acceptable athletics program standards and operations.
  • Knowledge of NJCAA and NCAA College Basketball rules and regulations.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Able to teach basketball skills, philosophy and methodology
  • Basketball coaching experience.
  • Basketball playing experience.
  • Ability to analyze and breakdown film of prospective student-athletes and opponents.
  • Ability to travel and drive a motor vehicle.
  • Working knowledge and ability with personal computing applications – specifically Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), Adobe products (e.g., Reader, Professional), as well as database management systems.
  • Excellent customer service skills; ability to communicate clearly with a variety of people, in one-to-one and small group settings – either face-to-face, by telephone, or by other electronic means – ability to communicate in an informative manner, effectively listen, and be able to handle escalating situations with concern and confidence.
  • Possess proficiency in coaching methodology, program design and development, program strategic planning, accounting and budgetary procedures; strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail in all areas of responsibility.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, a satisfactory driving record to be able to be insured by LCCC’s insurance provider, and pass the van driver training course to be a certified LCCC driver.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Demonstrate collaboration, cooperation, and sensitivity in working with students, colleagues and staff in the campus settings.
  • Demonstrate appropriate judgment in making decisions.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate composure and necessary confidentiality with regard to both past and current employee, student, and donor data; documents; issues; etc., and respect privacy needs of all employees, students, and donors.
  • Ability to comply with highly inflexible deadlines; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required.

  • To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, an employee must be able to maintain appropriate composure and necessary confidentiality with regard to both past and current employee, student, and donor data; documents; issues; etc., and respect privacy needs of employees, students, donors
  • The ability to comply with highly inflexible deadlines is required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required
  • While performing the essential functions of this position a variable work schedule may be required including long workdays, evenings, and weekends as needed
  • The ability to maintain professional composure and represent the College in a positive manner while executing the essential functions of this position in a competitive and high-paced athletic environment
  • There may be occurrences of interacting with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations
  • While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
  • There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
  • An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds to perform essential position functions. For lifts exceeding 50lbs, an assisted lift technique is required
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
  • The work environment for this position requires the ability to work in a gym/recreation area which may include long periods of standing, sitting, frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, and the ability to respond quickly to an active athletic environment. (i.e. basketballs being thrown, running patrons, quickly changing environment, etc.)
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Three years of collegiate-level coaching experience or four years of collegiate level or higher (professional) experience as a competitor
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to be insured by the College’s insurance provider
  • Ability to obtain CPR, First-Aid, and AED certifications within six months of hire date

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree from regionally accredited institution
  • Four years of collegiate-level head coaching experience
