This position is only available for LCCC students enrolled in at least 6 credit hours for the Fall 2023 semester and students who are eligible for Federal Work Study. You will need a resume to complete your application.

Job Summary: Core responsibilities of this position include:

The Student Assistant position for LCCC is a part-time, non-benefited, student position that requires current enrollment as a LCCC student and requires Federal Work Study eligibility. (Students may speak with the LCCC Student Hub and Financial Aid to determine if they are Federal Work Study eligible). This position is responsible for assisting the department with routine tasks that support the day-to-day operations of the department. These tasks include but are not limited to clerical work such as filing, scanning, sorting, data entry, copying and delivering paperwork; assisting in preparing office materials; answering phones; providing general customer service; supporting special projects; and overall assisting the operational functions of the department. Individuals in this position are expected to represent the Department and LCCC in a professional manner and adhere to applicable policies and procedures.

Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need.

Start Date: Fall 2023

Compensation: 13.33/hr.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions: – this position is Non-Exempt, i.e., is eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA. This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative; other duties may be assigned).

Office Support Functions:

  • Operate equipment in the Entrepreneurship lab and Concept Forge while assisting others in learning how to use and operate equipment safely in the lab.
  • Assist in maintaining and cleaning equipment in the lab to ensure good long-term operations.
  • Maintain established rules and safety standards in the lab to ensure safe and proper use of equipment to limit risk of injury.
  • Support the department through clerical tasks such as filing, scanning, sorting, copying, etc. as needed.
  • Assist department team members through preparing materials, monitoring supply inventories needed for consistent operation of equipment and assisting the operational functions of the department.
  • Provide general customer service through responding to visitors, and routing inquiries to the appropriate team member of the department.
  • Support the department with special projects and events through completing tasks as assigned.
  • Communicate and plan accordingly with the assigned supervisor to develop and establish a work schedule for the semester to allow for more availability for students wanting to access the lab.
  • Promptly communicate any changes to established schedules and seek advanced approval for known schedule conflicts or requests.
  • Assist with data entry, maintenance of spreadsheets and creation of department flyers or communications.
  • Notify and elevate concerns to the appropriate supervisor regarding any issues, barriers, or concerns regarding task completion, customer concerns, or the general work environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and ability with personal computing applications – specifically Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), Adobe products (e.g., Reader, Professional), as well as database management systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality standards.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with area supervisor to resolve work and college course scheduling conflicts.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions in oral, written, or diagrammatical form (e.g., a flow chart of a process).
  • Excellent customer service skills; ability to communicate clearly with a variety of people, in one-to-one and small group settings – either face-to-face, by telephone, or by other electronic means.
  • Ability to communicate in an informative manner and effectively listen.
  • Ability to support time-based requests; able to function effectively in a multi-tasking, fast-paced environment with deadlines and frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to respond to basic inquiries from faculty, staff, or other students.
  • Knowledge of basic office equipment including computer, copier, fax machine, and telephone.

Physical/Mental Demands:

  • To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, an employee must be able to maintain appropriate composure and necessary confidentiality with regard to both past and current employee, student, and donor data; documents; issues; etc., and respect privacy needs of employees, students, donors.
  • The ability to comply with highly inflexible deadlines is required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position; there will be multiple occurrences of sudden, urgent task completion required.
  • While performing the essential functions of this position a variable work schedule may be required including long workdays, evenings, and weekends as needed.
  • There may be occurrences of interacting with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations.
  • While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities.
  • There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor.
  • An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds to perform essential position functions.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Current LCCC student and continued enrollment in a minimum of 6 credits a semester, (exceptions may be given for summer term with supervisor approval).
  • Federal Work Study eligible.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of experience in an office setting working with Microsoft Office Software. (Excel, Word, Etc.)
  • Knowledge or interest in the tools and equipment offered in a makerspace environment (3D printers, laser etchers, sewing machines, heat press, vinyl cutters, sublimation, etc.).
