Lapham-Hickey Steel is Hiring a Loader Near Oshkosh, WI

Purpose/Summary:

A loader is responsible for finishing and packaging parts according to customer specifications. This includes but is not limited to hand grinding, use of belt sander, Dynafile, die grinder, etc.

Schedule: Sunday - Thursday. 5x8's. 2nd or 3rd shift.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Locates material and moves the material to the appropriate area using a forklift or overhead crane. Must be able to push, pull or lift up to 75 pounds of material. Product in excess of 75 pounds must be moved either via team lift or use of appropriate device(s).
  • Loads material onto truck trailers via forklift or overhead crane. Must properly space and arrange material for optimal delivery sequence.
  • Verifies material to confirm correct items are placed on trucks according to manifest and weight.
  • Loads materials in such a manner as to ensure proper weight distribution and to ensure that material will reach the customer destination in a safe and presentable manner.
  • Completes associated paperwork in accordance with company guidelines. Completes the order on the mainframe computer system by wanding the order and accurately entering required information.
  • Prepares shipping tags using the department computer or by completing the tag manually if necessary.
  • Notifies the supervisor and/or maintenance department when department equipment is not running correctly or when assistance with preventive maintenance is needed.
  • Completes assigned duties in accordance with safety policies and practices. This includes regard to individual safety, the safety of other employees, and the safe use of equipment in the workplace.
  • Wears approved personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by a supervisor, lead person or management.

Working Conditions:

Working conditions may consist of loud noise, repetitive motions, airborne particles such as metal dust and chips and exposure to chemicals such as soaps, oils and detergents. Physical requirements include continual standing, walking, lifting, twisting with periodic bending, climbing, stooping, crawling and crouching.

Knowledge, Abilities, Skills:

  • Previous work experience with grinding hand tools is preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate overhead cranes with related equipment and forklifts.
  • Ability to perform simple math including addition and subtraction.
  • Ability to read basic blueprints (Bay 900)
  • Knowledge of general shop procedures and rules including safety precautions.
  • Ability and willingness to cooperate with co-workers and work as part of a production team.

For general labors, their job will be in an inside environment that will consist of a dusty, noisy atmosphere. They will need to be able to lift, pull, push, stand, bend, grasp, reach and twist while standing on a regular basis.

Some of the risk factors for their job will include repetitive motions, static and awkward postures, reaching above the shoulder, and moving heavy objects.

Their main hazard but not limited to will be their hands, after that some other hazards will include eye, foot, body, fall and noise hazards. Along with the body hazards, some hazards that come from the job will be: improper bending/twisting, spraying down the metal, tripping over the product/material, banding improperly or handling the product improperly.

Some preventive measures will be having the proper PPE (safety glasses, shoes, hearing protection, etc.) on while making sure they are using the right technique when moving/lifting objects. Along with that, making sure that loose clothing is tucked in.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
