Lantern Community Services is Hiring a Resident Coordinator - Stardom Hall Near New York, NY

Classification: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Program Director

Location: Midtown, Manhattan

Position Status: - Full-time

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Hourly Range: $20.37 - $22.52


Objective:

We are seeking a dynamic and engaging Resident Coordinator who has experience working in housing with formerly homeless, mentally ill single adults and/or young adults aging out of foster care or with histories of homelessness and residential treatment. The ideal Candidate will have knowledge about the population, as well as experience working with clients impacted by mental illness, substance use, criminal justice involvement and medical issues. The Resident Coordinator works closely with the Program Director to build a program culture that emphasizes respect for all members and progress toward goals.

Position Type: This is a full-time position that works from Tuesday through Saturday from 4:00 PM - 12:00 AM. Lantern staff may be asked to change work schedule and hours depending on the operational needs of the site and the agency.


Essential Functions:

  • Provides direct monitoring of the building and residents, via (cameras)CCTV monitors.
  • Actively participates in staff meetings, clinical meetings, and community meetings with clients.
  • Works closely with other security staff to ensure a safe environment including coordinating the response and documentation of all incidents.
  • Utilize a harm reduction approach to support tenants around issues of substance use.
  • Supports staff in actively engaging tenants.
  • Adheres to all safety plans for tenants; deescalates tenants and collaboratively manages crisis situations as they arise.
  • Monitor all activities inside and outside of the building.
  • Alerts supervisor of related events that happen in the evening or overnight.
  • Upholds and support tenant obligations as per Resident Agreement and Tenant Handbook and inform the supervisor of any issues.
  • Provides empathy, individualized support to young adults as needed.
  • Assist young adults with conflict resolutions and alerts supervisor about any issues or safety concerns.
  • Be cognizant of all building safety procedures and assists with conducting fire drills and self-preservation activities as needed.
  • Participates in a robust training program that includes training in evidenced based models to ensure highest level of service is provided to tenants.
  • Documents all work according to Lantern policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as requested.


Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma, GED or HSE, is required.
  • Previous experience working in the field of social services, supportive housing or emergency shelter.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and can make sound assessments of the needs of individual tenants.
  • Comfortable working in a harm reduction model with individuals actively struggling with ongoing substance use issues.
  • Must have initiative, and the ability to work well under pressure, together with an ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience using the computer to document and report incidents connected to tenants and the building.
  • Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills
  • Preferred: Security Experience preferred.

Work Environment: This job operates in a supportive housing site and works with a population who experiences mental illness, addiction, disability, HIV, and other chronic illnesses.
