About the Position

This Management Analyst position as the Public Works Safety Coordinator generally includes the following responsibilities: developing, maintaining employee safety records, training, tracking safety violations and trends. The position chairs the Department Safety Committee and work in partnership with County activities related to worker and public safety as it pertains to the Department. Though assigned as to the Administrative Division, this position facilitates safety training throughout the Department ensuring compliance with Federal and State safety laws and guidelines in both an administrative and field operational settings across the divisions.

POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Positions assigned to Safety may be responsible for:

  • Facilitating safety training and education sessions;
  • Coordinating Wellness Clinics and hearing tests;
  • Conducting field observations of work methods and ensuring compliance with safety standards;
  • Reviewing and evaluating OSHA regulations and updates.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:

  • Applicable codes, rules, and regulations;
  • Basic budgeting principles;
  • Field survey methods and practices;
  • Research methods;
  • Contract management principles and practices;
  • Recordkeeping principles and practices;
  • Computers and related software applications;
  • Customer service principles and practices.

Skills in:

  • Analyzing, gathering, researching, and monitoring data applicable to the Employee Safety Program;
  • Reviewing project and program designs and identifying potential problems;
  • Coordinating activities in area of assignment;
  • Monitoring and reviewing a budget;
  • Conducting research;
  • Preparing and maintaining records and reports;
  • Conducting field surveys;
  • Using a computer and related software applications;
  • Prioritizing and assigning work;
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

About the Division

The Administrative Services Division provides support services for the other seven Public Works (PW) divisions. It serves as central administration for the Department, with functions that include payroll, budgeting, financial management, safety, training and development, contract administration, and customer service. Administrative Services also provides leadership, information, analysis, and support to the Department Director, management team, staff, citizens, and Board of Commissioners to assist them in making quality decisions about the Department and Lane County’s communities.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, schedule may shift during peak seasons, overtime may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Training:

  • Bachelor's Degree in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, or a field related to area of assignment; and sufficient experience as necessitated by the competency level of the position.

Experience:

  • 2-5 years of professional experience in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, or a field related to area of assignment ; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

DRIVER’S LICENSE:

  • Must be in possession of a valid driver's license at time of application, and a valid Oregon Driver's license by time of appointment.

Pay: $59,758.40 - $87,900.80 per year
