Lane Aviation Academy is seeking a qualified instructor for its Aviation Unmanned Aircraft Systems (AUAS) program. The AUAS program is part of the larger Aviation Academy that provides drone, mechanic, and pilot training. The Academy has a great student certificate completion rate and provides exceptional job opportunities with regional airlines, heavy-lift helicopter operations, and general aviation. Position Purpose:
Facilitate learning in Unmanned Aircraft Systems and support students in all areas of operations, maintenance, and engineering of drones and enable students to qualify for FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificates.
Faculty are professional educators with the primary responsibility of providing a quality learning experience for all Lane Community College students. The relationship of the faculty member to the student is one of the teacher of record and facilitator of learning.
Essential Functions:
Support student learning through activities that include:
  • Exhibit compliance with College policies and procedures, accountability for leave time, timesheet completion, release time, textbook ordering and related functions
  • Sustain currency in discipline and innovation in teaching
  • Collegial participation in faculty performance evaluation process
  • Maintain and post teaching schedule, regular meetings and office hours
  • Maintain physical campus presence for instruction and daily needs of students, departments, college, and community, as specified in the
  • Maintain requirements for student records, attendance, grades, and/or other documentation; ensure a safe, quality classroom or lab, including equipment, supplies, and inventory
  • Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students
  • Other duties as assigned
Curriculum Delivery
  • Provide high-quality classroom instruction
  • Create course content, develop and revise course content and materials
  • Establish learning outcomes consistent with core ability outcomes, assess outcomes using appropriate assessment tools, and use assessment results to inform improvements at a program and course level
  • Incorporate college values into the curriculum and promote a respectful learning environment including facilitating awareness of multicultural and diversity issues in curricula
  • Teach and develop all class syllabi and course materials, in a form that can be directly delivered to, and used by, students
  • Confer with students on course materials
  • Deliver curriculum to students in traditional and online formats
Online Teaching and Student Support
  • Expect to make use of the Learning Management System (LMS) to publish and update content, post grades and promote student engagement among students with course content
  • Use multiple modes of communication tools including online publishing, audio, and video tools
  • Be present within the online course to interact with students, help guide asynchronous discussions and provide opportunities for students' voices to be heard within the online course
  • Monitor student progress and provide reasonable coaching and assistance to struggling students towards success
  • Review and grade all work submitted by students and provide timely and substantive feedback
  • Respond to student inquiries within 48 hours
  • Ensure that all materials created are accessible and meet the guidelines of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act
  • Post student attendance, grades, and course syllabus to the college LMS in accordance with college timelines
  • Use current best practices and pedagogies for teaching online including the application of online course quality frameworks for clearly providing course learning objectives to students, while consistently setting clear weekly and term-long expectations for work and assessment

Division Essential Functions
  • Teach in a variety of Aviation Unmanned Aircraft System subjects, manage program resources and further the advancement and growth of the department.
  • Provides faculty duties in the event of overload or substitute duties to maintain compliance with FAA requirements.
  • Regularly evaluate and modify curricular materials to ensure that they are up to date, current with FAA requirements, and materials are coordinated with current textbooks and/or online materials
  • Incorporate current industry practices and standards and FAA requirements into all classroom and laboratory activities.
  • Ensures compliance with FAA regulations to maintain compliance and assure a safe working environment.
  • Adhere to college, department and industries policies and procedure; apply union contract articles to work as necessary.
General
  • Must demonstrate an active concern for students, staff, and the public.

Supervision Statement:
Reports to the Director of Aviation Academy and performs instruction-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies, and procedures of the college:
Physical Demands/Working Environment:
Work Safely; use of potentially dangerous equipment; lift or transport up to one hundred (100) lbs.; may use hazardous chemicals requiring OSHA compliance; exposed to strong smells and/or fumes; safely climb ladders.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrate skill in effective teaching methods and knowledge related to Aviation Maintenance, and ability to communicate effectively.
  • Willingness to take the lead on hangar duties, including tool and equipment management and maintenance as part of the overall instructional assignment.
  • Skill in creating and maintaining a classroom and laboratory environment that is conductive to student learning.
  • Knowledge of a broad range of aviation content areas.
  • Ability to adapt to changing needs and keep courses and program current.
  • Knowledge of learning theory, current teaching methods and uses of information technology in education.
  • Ability to design and use classroom assessment methods to improve learning.
  • Ability to identify, communicate and demonstrate appropriate safety practices.
  • Skill in the use of software, especially word processing, spread sheet and instructional software.
