Lanakila Pacific is Hiring a Grounds Services Worker - Lead Near Honolulu, HI

The Grounds Services Worker – Lead is primarily responsible for leading, training and motivating a team of individuals with disabilities to learn groundskeeping and landscaping work that meets quality standards. This position is part of the AbilityOne Program for individuals with disabilities. The program serves as a vital training groundthat provides a wide range of employment opportunities for people with significant disabilities so they can learn the world of work and overcome barriersto achieving competitive employment on their own. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position Specific Duties
Orientation,Supervision and Training:

  • Leads, trains and motivates staff as part ofLanakila Pacific’s Grounds Maintenance Strainingprogram.
  • Trains and orientsnewstaff using training curriculum todeveloptheirskills to perform groundskeeping and landscaping work and safely use grounds maintenance equipment.
  • ReportstotheGrounds Services Assistant Manager when staff do not follow work rules and acounselingisrequired.
  • Ensures staff time and attendance is correctly reported.
  • Assignsstaffwhereneededor requests manpower tofulfillworkdemands.
  • Maintains a daily timecard by clocking in and out on a phone system.
  • Assists Grounds Services Assistant Manager with introductory and annual employee evaluations.

Maintenance of area, tools, and equipment:

  • Maintainsequipmentmaintenance/repair records.
  • Checks all facilities and storage areas for proper housekeeping.
  • Checks and ensures that all facilities are locked and secured.
  • Checks that all equipment and tools are in a safe and working condition prior to use and notifies any discrepancies to the Assistant Manager.
  • Checks and ensures that all equipment and tools are secured and in their proper location.
  • Implements plan for general cleaning at regular intervals.

Safety and Facility:

  • Maintains a safe work environment and notifies management of any areas/conditions that need attention.
  • Performs general housekeeping practices by removing all fire and safety hazards includes litter, unwanted debris, used rags, empty containers.
  • Coordinates, plans, conducts and reviews daily safety briefings with staff.
  • Inspects assigned facility and coordinates removal of all fire and safety hazards in the area.
  • Properly uses and train others on the proper operation of a fire extinguisher.
  • Maintains first aid kit in assigned work areas and vehicles and have knowledge of basic first aid procedures. Reports to Assistant Manager missing or shortage of supplies.
  • Reports workplace injuries according to established procedures including calling MEDCOR immediately for instructions to care for injury and follow-up with incident report in a timely manner.
  • Ensures all Incident, Training and Safety Inspection reports, and all Vehicle Inspection and mileage sheets are reviewed and completed before submitting to Assistant Manager.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Follows all safety procedure and practices, and that safeguards and proper safety gear, such as gloves, are used when appropriate.
  • Follows established work rules, standards of conduct, policies, procedures and practices.
  • Performs other reasonably related business duties as assigned by Assistant Manager or Director of Grounds & Custodial Services.
  • Completes training as mandated by organizational policy.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work with confidential information and comply with established policies, procedures, and practices.

EQUIPMENT USE & SAFETY

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be issued and must be usedalways.
  • Maintains and cleans all (PPE) equipment used; any damaged equipment must be reported to Assistant Manager immediately.
  • Maintains and cleans all assigned tools and equipment used to perform your daily task.
  • May use company vehicle, mower, hand tools, power tools to perform grounds maintenance task.
  • Securesall assignedequipment in a safe and securedstorage area during and at the end of workday.
  • Stores and secures gas cans, chemicals in their proper storage lockers.
  • Reports any missing or damaged equipment considered a safety hazard to the Grounds Services Assistant Manager as soon known.

WORKING CONDITIONS/HOURS:

  • Workdays are variable; Monday through Saturday the hours are 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., May be required to work before or beyond normal business hours to meet operational needs. Overtime must be preapproved by Grounds Assistant Manager.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Required

  • Education: High school diploma or Certificate of Completion or equivalent
  • Experience: One-year workingin grounds maintenance or landscaping, including a specific trade and operating grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Clearance/Certifications: 1) TB clearance; 2) Criminal background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol testing; 3) Child Protective Service/Adult Protective Service check.
  • Valid driver’s license and clear driver’s abstract

Preferred

  • Experience: One-year supervisory
  • Clearance/Certifications: 1) OSHA 30-hour Safety Class Training; 2) CPR/First Aid;3) Bloodborne Pathogens certification, 4) Military Base Access
