In this role, you will formulate and evaluate our adhesives and coatings, present findings to leadership, carry out production trials and assist with commercialization.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Formulate, evaluate, and refine adhesive and coating formulations as required by the Company, customer request, and market demand.
• Prepare laboratory laminations and conduct testing on existing and experimental adhesive formulations.
• Testing may include, but is not limited to: Lab draw downs and laminations, Tensile and Peel testing, Analytical testing such as FTIR, Rheology, and thermal analysis, Fire tests – vertical burns, LOI, panel burns, and others.
• Research, recommend, and implement new test procedures as needed.
• Organize and supervise production line trials associated with the testing and scale up of experimental formulations.
• Communicate the results and recommendations of trials and development programs to Management on a timely basis.
• Identify, test, and trial new raw materials including films, foils and reinforcements to meet customer specified requirements and cost targets.
• Consult with internal and external subject matter experts to resolve technical issues.
• Maintain up-to-date FT-IR and rheological-properties data of raw materials and adhesive formulations.
• Ensure that the laboratory is kept clean and well-organized.
• Continuously improve knowledge and skill by attending external seminars and trainings.
• Mentor R&D technicians, interns, and other team members. 

Required Education and Qualifications:

• BS, MS or PhD degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Material Science
• Minimum of 2 years’ bench-chemistry experience in an industrial setting, ideally formulating adhesives and/or coatings.
• Minimum of two years of manufacturing experience is preferred.
• Proven track record in product development.
• Knowledge of polymers and additives to meet a variety of end user product applications.
• Extensive experience in formulating water-based systems. 
• Experience with one-part adhesives, coatings, or latex paint preferred. 
• FTIR and rheology experience preferred. 
• Advanced knowledge of and familiarity with lab equipment, including pH meter, viscometer, etc.
• Knowledge of roll-to-roll manufacturing / converting process is helpful but not required.
• Desire to initiate, prioritize and drive projects to completion.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Enjoys dealing with problems involving multiple variables.
• Enjoys reading professional journals, general business periodicals and technical procedures.
• Computer literacy, including MS Office software and the aptitude to learn other software.
• Ability to travel based on company needs (up to 15%).
