About the Role:
The Office of Data, Analytics, Reporting, and Analysis (DARpA) at Lamar University seeks a Data Management Officer (DMO). The DMO will demonstrate superior communication skill, and the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with a variety of stakeholders in service of creating, implementing, and maintaining a data governance program for the university.
The DMO acts as the subject matter expert for data governance for the university, leading policy design, professional development initiatives, and building conceptual frameworks for use across all institutional data systems. They will be expected to be the change agent for data governance on campus—to facilitate user adoption of related processes, procedures, and controls.
The DMO will work closely with university executives to set direction and data priorities. They will facilitate activities for the Data Governance Committee—setting agendas, organizing concepts and topics for committee discussion, and designing projects for working groups. They will create documentation as well a design and implement professional development opportunities for all Lamar employees to help foster a data-driven culture.
The DMO will be expected to remain current on all federal, state, and accrediting bodies compliance requirements as related to data governance. They will also conduct regular assessments of data systems for both maturity and quality. This is a cross functional position that will work with IT, data owners (across all pillars of university data), and executive leadership.
Position Duties:
  • Manage the Data Governance Committee’s schedule, activities, and projects
  • Develop and implement processes, procedures, and controls for data management across a variety of systems.
  • Create data governance professional development for all Lamar employees
  • Develop formal data governance policies.
  • Conduct periodic data governance maturity assessments.
  • Conducts periodic data quality checks across all data systems
  • Act as Lamar’s liaison to the Texas Dept. of Information Resources
  • Facilitate system of issue management for data governance related problems

Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree (Data Science, Computer Science, Information systems, etc.)
  • An understanding of Data management principles and/or experience in successfully implementing data governance or other related policy programs. Strong problem-solving and project management skills.
