At our oral & maxillofacial surgery center, our surgical advanced practitioner position is a clinical position involved with both consultations and surgery. Our Practice culture is aimed to teach, educate and grow our team’s technical abilities and knowledge. Our position is open to seasoned dental assistants, anesthesia assistant, surgical techs, medical assistants, nurses and veterinary assistants or those looking to go into these professional fields. Our surgery center provides full scope oral surgery from tooth extractions, bone grafting, dental implants, zygomatic implants, frenectomy and tongue tie release, TMJ management, general anesthesia, cosmetic surgeries, PRF, PDO Thread facelift, head and neck Botox treatment, filler rejuvenation of the face, microneedling and other skin solutions.
Day to day tasks will include: Greeting patients per protocol, Assisting with patient intake forms, Inputting patient chart information into the medical record, Coordinating patient information with referring medical or dental offices, surgical first assist during surgery and general anesthesia, taking x-rays, inventory management, writing prescription, participating in service training and medical training (surgical scenarios, emergency drills, medical scribe training, chairside assisting with full scope oral surgery), attending work-related community events.
Minimum of 2 years experience in the field requested but not required. Preference given to those applicants with the following certifications: Certified Dental Assistant, Nitrous oxide monitoring, DAANCE, Dental radiology, BLS/CPR, PALS, ACLS, Phlebotomy, peripheral IV placement, OMS assistant, RN, BSN, APRN, Medical scribe, paramedic/EMS.
Responsibilities:
- Assist surgeons during surgical procedures by providing necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment
- Prepare operating rooms for surgery, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available and sterile
- Maintain a sterile field during surgery by following proper infection control protocols
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and provide assistance as required
- Handle and care for surgical specimens according to established procedures
- Document patient information accurately in medical records systems such as Epic
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and equipment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills to maintain accurate records and ensure patient safety
- Proficiency in using medical records systems such as Epic or similar software
- Knowledge of ambulatory surgery center operations is a plus
