JOB SUMMARY: Youth Mentors work directly with young adults up to the age of 19 both in-house and in the community. Youth Mentors are responsible for creating positive relationships with student participants and maintaining structure in a group setting. Youth Mentors help students learn, explore and have fun during programming that is offered after school, on no school days, during summer, and on weekends. Programming includes daily living skills, health and wellness topics, career exploration and development through volunteer experiences, and fun community events and activities.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Maintain awareness of student’s interests, strengths, and needs to provide appropriate services and feedback during case review process.
· Plan and participate in activities with the students out in the community and in-house.
· Redirect students when they exhibit inappropriate behaviors and provide positive and constructive feedback.
· Transport and accompany students to activities in company vehicles.
· Maintain good verbal and written communication to ensure all involved parties are kept up-to-date and informed of any changes necessary relating to students.
· Provide mobility training while exploring the community.
· Present training on and model soft skills such as communication, conflict resolution, creativity, problem solving, and teamwork.
· Generate interest and familiarity with the community through supported experiences and engagement.
· Assist with identifying meaningful community resources and establishing volunteer sites.
· Provide supports in various levels: 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 and 1:4 group sizes.
· Complete reports as directed.
· May need to provide assistance with personal cares as defined by the student’s plan.
· Respond to emergency situations promptly and administer First Aid or CPR/AED if needed.
· Report any and all accidents/injuries along with filling out reports within 24 hours.
· Promote and maintain confidentiality of students at all times.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
· Minimum of a High School Diploma, associate or Undergraduate Degree in related field is preferred.
· Experience working with people with disabilities is a plus
· Knowledge of physical and mental impairments which affect a student’s ability to be independent, productive and socially appropriate.
· Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
· Must demonstrate effective problem-solving skills.
· Must understand that serving others is an important component of this position.
· Must be creative, community-minded and energized by a highly diverse and collaborative environment.
· Ability to be adaptable in new situations and flexible in approach.
· Ability to correct and redirect students tactfully and positively.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Temporary
Pay: $15.50 - $17.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 40 per week
