Position Summary
Summary:
The Public Relations and Media Strategist facilitates day-to-day public relations and media relationships and communication with the Associate Vice President of Marketing and Communications. The Public Relations and Media Strategist will respond to media queries and will take a proactive approach to reaching out to various LRH contacts, looking for earned media opportunities to promote the organization. The Strategist will also write and create corporate communications for internal messaging and community advocacy opportunities.

Detailed responsibilities:

4. Standard Work
  • Write, edit and distribute timely, press releases, media alerts, press kits, and related public information materials.
  • Provide media relations support after regular business hours on an on-call basis.
  • Assist in the implementation of emergency and crisis communications efforts during regular business hours, and after hours on an on-call basis.
  • Write internal executive messaging including team emails, management emails, board memos, and CEO updates as needed.
  • Assist in the development and coordination of special events such as news conferences, grand openings and new service line launches, including virtual events, as assigned.
  • Assist in reviewing and editing communications drafted by others to ensure messaging is consistent with tone and branding and is grammatically correct.
  • Track and maintain archives of key messages and materials related to public outreach.
  • Track, evaluate, document and share media hits and mentions with leadership.

Knowledge and Skills:

Essential:
  • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possesses excellent editing and proofreading skills.
  • Demonstrates excellent time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects on a deadline at one time with quality and efficiency.
  • Self-starter with the ability to forge relationships and add value to the communication team.
  • Has a positive attitude, is proactive in promoting the Habitat mission, and is eager to excel in all understandings.
  • Possesses knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Adobe Software, Asana and a willingness to learn and a professional disposition.

Preferred:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite and in organizational communication tools such as SharePoint, OneDrive, Asana and Slack.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
Essential:
Degree level: Bachelor
Degree Type: Communications, Public Relations, Journalism. Additional experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to (4) years. Portfolio with creative writing samples.
Other information:
Experience Essential:
  • At least (4) Years of experience in responding to media requests, producing news releases, developing briefing materials and executive communication, and implementing public relations and internal communication strategies.
Preferred: Knowledge and experience in healthcare environment.
