Lakeland Regional Health is Hiring a Mental Health Screener I - BHS Observation Near Lakeland, FL

Position Information
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, an estimated 26.2 percent of adults suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder. Recognizing this need, we at Lakeland Regional Health have devoted ourselves in creating the best mental health facilities possible. We are dedicated to improving outcomes and helping people get well. From helping children and parents survive divorce, to treating depression, our licensed clinical staff provides a team approach to care. Under the direction of a board-certified psychiatrist, our mental health facilities provide in- and out-patient care to adults at all levels of mental health severity. Under the direction of our board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist, we also provide services to adolescents who require mental health treatment. Work Type: Active Part Time - Less than 40 per biweekly pay period. Accrues time off

Work Schedule: 7p-3a Weekends additional shifts
Work Hours per Biweekly Pay Period: 48
Shift Time: 7:00pm-3:00am
Location: Behavioral Center, Lakeland, FL.
Position Summary
Summary:
Provide extended mental health screening services for patients presenting to LRMC in need of mental health and/or addictions services. This includes application of screening criteria to assist in evaluating potential patients for admission. Thorough application of knowledge and appropriate use of criteria, assists in determining necessity of admission. Provide appropriate referral(s). Performs patient care as possible when/where additional staffing is needed in patient care areas.

  • Standard Work Duties: Mental Health Screener I
  • Identifies and supplies provisional DSM V diagnostic recommendation.
  • Applies criteria appropriately while utilizing knowledge and training to provide sound recommendation as to necessity of admission, likewise documents and makes appropriate referrals with absence of supported negative feedback.
  • Obtains authorizations as contracted and/or required, verifies demographic and payor information, and assists patient in evaluating his/her care resources and utilization whenever possible with no more than two denials due to lack of compliance with requirements.
  • Functions as a liaison with the ED, CSU, CFC, and other community resources/facilities with no more than two substantiated complaints.
  • Assists on unit(s) as needed when available and in times of crisis (Codes) and performs Mental Health Assistant duties as necessary.
  • Assures that patient valuables and/or medications are secured in the safe and returned to patient upon discharge or transfer per policy.
  • Discharge planning and clinicals given on 23 hour observation patients upon discharge.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
Essential:
  • Bachelor Degree
Education equivalent experience:
Essential:
  • Bachelor's degree in social work or psychology or sociology.
Other information:
Cerificatations Essential: Complete annual department de-escalation training.
Experience Essential:
One year of experience in mental health or related field.
