Position Details
Detailed responsibilities:
  • Standard Work: Certified Athletic Trainer-School-Based - PRN
  • Provides comprehensive prevention, care, and rehabilitation services to high school athletes during practice and competition coverage for select sports.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships and communication mechanisms with designated school athletic director, school nurse, team and community sports medicine physicians, physical and occupational therapists, parents and school representatives, and the larger Lakeland community.
  • Works collaboratively with team and community physicians, physician extenders, and the rehabilitation team to promote timely access to medical and physical rehabilitation services and rapid and safe return to sport.
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic and flexibility to meet athlete, school, and clinic workloads so that positive outcomes are achieved while maintaining a high degree of productivity and efficiency.
  • Assists the outpatient rehab team with procedures specific to patient care under the direct supervision of physical and occupational therapists and performs daily work flow components as directed by rehab management.
  • Designs/implements specified interventions under the direction of a designated LRH physician.
  • Completes and maintains all athlete-related documentation.
  • Utilizes measures to promote and maintain patient, visitor, and staff safety by demonstrating appropriate use of infection control principles and personal protection equipment.
  • Actively participates in team development and in accomplishing Department goals and objectives.
  • Knows and adheres to all organizational and department policies and procedures as well as those of assigned high school.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
Essential:
  • Bachelor Degree
Education equivalent experience:
Essential:
  • Successful completion of mandatory requirements, including Department proficiencies/competencies.
Other information:
Experience Essential:
  • Two years of experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer in an athletic training setting.
  • Essential computer skills and knowledge of electronic medical records recommended
  • Successful completion of mandatory requirements, including Department proficiencies/competencies
Experience Preferred:
  • Three to five years of experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer in a school-based setting.
  • Position requires basic and continuously updated, evidence-based knowledge of anatomy and physiology, pathology, pharmacology, primary care medicine, preventive health maintenance and emergency medical care.
Certifications Essential:
  • Certification through the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification; Certified BLS CPR and AED
Licenses Essential:
  • Athletic Training Licensure or Eligibility for the State of Florida.
