Position Summary
Summary: The Surgery scheduler contributes to positive outcomes and meets the customer service expectations of the Cancer Center by exhibiting professional behavior and positive guest relations at all times. The Surgery Scheduler coordinates scheduling of surgeries so that care is coordinated. May float, as needed, across other functional areas performing a variety of duties as support/patient representative staff. He/she works collaboratively with external health care providers to coordinate procedures.

Standard Work Duties: Cancer Center Surgery Scheduler
Actively participates in team development, achieving dashboards, and in accomplishing department goals and objectives.
Schedule and verify surgeries, physicians availability, OR suites, anesthesia, equipment and other requirements needed for the surgery.
Communicate with LRH OR surgery schedulers to coordinate all scheduling functions which includes completing and sending (via fax, inter-office mail, staff) surgical reservation form.
Ensure all patient demographic information is correct and obtains authorizations and pre-certifications from patient's insurance company.
Acts as a liaison between the patients and physicians. Coordinate patient's pre-op laboratory tests. Explain any other procedures needing to be completed prior to surgery. Provide clear, concise instructions to patient.
Coordinate utilization of outside services for the surgical procedure (surgical assistants, equipment, pharmaceutical representatives, imaging, etc.).
Schedules all patient autologous blood donations and ensure it is completed prior to surgery. Answers, screens, and refers all incoming calls to the appropriate person to ensure accurate and timely communications. Take messages as appropriate. Maintain confidentiality of information and uses appropriate discretion when discussing patient matters.
Serve as a liaison for the patient ensuring they have an understanding of all pre-op instructions and following up with the patient to ensure that everything is completed prior to surgery.
Enter the surgery into the log book as well as into the IMPAC schedule.
May float, as needed, across other functional areas performing a variety of duties as support/patient representative staff. Maintain strict confidentiality of patients' medical and financial data.
