Lake Superior State University is Hiring a Special Projects Coordinator Near Sault Ste Marie, MI

Lake Superior State University’s Center for Freshwater Research and Education (CFRE) is seeking a professional who desires an excellent career opportunity working with the CFRE team as the Special Projects and Development Coordinator. Working closely with the CFRE Leadership Team, the Special Projects and Development Coordinator is responsible for leading and supporting special projects and development in relation to CFRE’s mission. The position will be a key contributor to the development, growth, financial sustainability, and strategic direction of CFRE, working with the CFRE Team, other university staff and students, external partners, and the community.

Function and Responsibility

Administration, coordination, and implementation of special projects and events that support the Center of Freshwater Research and Education’s strategic plan, including research, community outreach, financial sustainability, and student opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Special Projects and Development Coordinator will provide key leadership and support to the Leadership Team. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead and support assigned special projects that support CFRE’s strategic plan
  • Provide oversight/planning of research meetings and activities, including ongoing international collaborations;
  • Assist with budget preparation, review and monitoring of budget reports and oversight of grant expenditures for special projects;
  • Contribute to administration of grant proposal development, awards, and management as needed;
  • Support, and in some situations, lead, new revenue-generating activities, including research initiatives
  • Generate reports to track and support growth in revenue-generating activities
  • Serve as a team lead and point of contact for special events and development opportunities
  • Coordinate operations and support logistics in order to execute successful events, projects, and/or fundraising activities;
  • Coordinate CFRE marketing efforts, and develop marketing initiatives for research highlights, fundraising, and community events;
  • Model and foster behavior that establishes a positive culture that values partnerships, donor, and community relationships
  • Such other duties as are necessary and assigned by the Executive Director

Flexibility and willingness to accept new ideas and challenges, flexibility in scheduled work hours, adaptability to changing projects and needs, strong verbal and written communication skills, and a great deal of initiative are essential. Individual must demonstrate a willingness to work as a team, but also take ownership of issues and solve them when needed.

Qualifications

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline; at least three years of office or project management experience preferred.

Experience in event planning or large-scale project planning and management; analytical, critical reasoning skills, and initiative necessary to make well-reasoned decisions on matters of significance; excellent writing and editing skills; expertise in graphic design software (e.g., Canva), social media, and website management; ability to summarize and analyze numerical data and develop necessary written and oral reports; attention to detail and ability to produce accurate work product; competence in office management software (MS word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint, google docs); willingness and ability to learn procedures, policies, and practices of CFRE and the University; ability to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities, and make decisions independently in support of CFRE’s mission; strong problem-solving skills; excellent interpersonal communication skills; willingness to work with the public, University students, and research scientists; ability and commitment to maintaining confidential information; and ability to work evening and weekend hours in support of CFRE events.
