Qualifications & Requirements:

• Master’s degree or higher in special education

• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate

• Full approval/ endorsement in at least one area of Special Education

• At least three years of successful teaching experience in Special Education (Resource experience preferred)

• Impeccable communication skills, both verbal and written

• Strong assessment background, including test selection, administration and interpretation relative to special education eligibility

• Demonstrated effective consultation skills, including familiarity with RtI and MTSS models and a wealth of evidence-based instructional and behavioral strategies to address the needs of students with varying disabilities

• Evidence of outstanding organizational and leadership skills, including solid understanding and meticulous observance of district procedures, state requirements and federal regulations; demonstrated ability to prioritize a timeline-driven workload, history of timely and accurate completion or reports and special education paperwork; ability to lead teams to consensus, and productive and positive relationships with parents, coworkers, administration and community partners

• The ability to provide leadership/ mentoring to peers related to the requirements of IDEA and the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education (MARSE)

• Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated leadership in roles outside the classroom

• Completion of CPI training (Required)

• Completion of IEP Coach Training or equivalent (IEP Boot Camp)- Required

• High level of proficiency in the completion of Functional Behavioral Assessments and development of Positive Behavior Support Plans
