Lake Land College is Hiring a Police Sergeant Near Mattoon, IL

Description

Supervise members of Police Department. Provides leadership and assists the Chief in maintaining departmental records. Efficient understanding of law enforcement vocabulary including the standard 10-code. Renders campus-wide protection for all college patrons and property.

Description of Essential Functions (critical tasks)

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Supervises all assigned personnel and manages the operations of the Department of Public Safety in the absence of the Chief.
  2. Assists with training of Departmental officers in association with the Chief.
  3. Provides written reports of incidents that occur on campus.
  4. Attend professional meetings and workshops related to areas of responsibility.
  5. Maintains order on campus pursuant to college policies and state law.
  6. Patrols campus facilities.
  7. Assists Chief with staff work schedules to ensure proper coverage campus wide.
  8. Maintain all department records including training records crime logs and reports.
  9. Ensure state mandated reporting requirements are met.
  10. Coordinate and document specialized training to include annual firearms qualification and training for crisis response team members.
  11. Other related duties as assigned.
Specific Functional Job Requirements

Education Requirements:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent work experience and/or training required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience Requirements:
Minimum three years law enforcement experience. Acquisition of Illinois Police Certification.
Knowledge:
Principles and practices of community college environment. Possess skills needed to supervisor people. Efficient understanding of law enforcement vocabulary, including the standard 10-code. Able to express ideas clearly and effectively, both verbally and written.
Skills:
Effective use of personal computer and related software. Operation of two-way radio and related equipment. Effectively use law enforcement weapons including, but not limited to, hand gun, handcuffs, and pepper spray.
Personal Requirements:
Able to relate to students, faculty and staff. Work within a team environment.
