We believe our employees should take pride in the work they accomplish while truly respecting a collaborative work environment.Under the direction of the Gun Violence Prevention Initiative Director the Violence Prevention Council (VPC) Coordinator will be responsible for convening monthly meetings with all RPSA-funded service providers in Lake County area and additional members set forth in the VPC. The incumbent will work with the Director of the GVPI and previous members of the Local Advisory Council to make changes to VPC membership, establish bylaws, develop strategic plans and other duties set forth by the council. The coordinator shall compile new VPCC member recommendations received and ensure that OFVP is informed of new members in order to move them through Office of Firearm Violence Prevention’s (OFVP's) internal vetting process. Responsibilities will include working in coordination with VPC members in response to shooting incidents and building on existing local collaboration efforts. An employee in this position is responsible for creating and implementing formalized processes for tracking and reporting of gun violence prevention programs and their milestones, collecting and analyzing gun crime data from law enforcement agencies and creating means to regularize tracking and verify data. The incumbent will assist in the design and implementation of dashboards and data visualizations and participate in other data and organizational projects as assigned by the director. The incumbent serves under the supervision of the GVPI Director, who evaluates performance on the basis of program outcomes. The State’s Attorney’s Office offers flexible scheduling and the ability to work remotely one day per week.
  • Convene Violence Prevention Coordinating Council (VPCC) members monthly and ensure the inclusion of any RPSA-funded service providers for the relevant community area.
  • Work with Director of Gun Violence Prevention Initiative and existing Local Advisory Council members to include additions or changes to VPCC membership, establishment of bylaws, development of strategic plans and other planning activities.
  • Facilitate the development of agendas, informed by coordinating council members, and memorialize priorities with notes or minutes for each meeting.
  • Keep track of new VPCC member recommendations received and ensure that OFVP is informed of new members in order to move them through Office of Firearm Violence Prevention’s (OFVP's) internal vetting process.
  • Coordinate Community Response Activities in Coordination with the VPCC. Convene meetings with VPCC members and other community stakeholders in response to shooting incidents and when conditions require immediate attention due to elevated threats of firearm violence. Build on local collaboration efforts.
  • Take inventory and keep records of root cause and other policy issues and barriers that may impact local RPSA objectives and goals. Lead strategic community resource analysis and asset mapping to ensure the holistic needs of each municipality is met. Develop plans for connecting families to a variety of social supports that address multiple disparities.
  • Create and implement a formalized process for tracking and reporting of different gun violence prevention programs including the completion of defined milestones, outputs, outcomes, expenditures, KPI’s, and other information as necessary
  • Engage with local organizations and stakeholders to scope out new projects by gathering requirements from stakeholders, determining the metrics needed for decision-making, and collect appropriate datasets
  • Collect and analyze gun crime data from law enforcement agencies and create a formalized process for regularized tracking and verifying provided data.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of dashboards and data visualizations that show progress toward performance goals
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Participate in other data and organizational projects for the GVPI as assigned.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field
  • 1-3 years of experience in analytics, data science, public policy, research, consulting, or related fields
  • 1-3 years of experience in a role that leveraged data analytics
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Quantitative thinking skills and a good eye for numbers
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, in particular, Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to clean, analyze, and interpret data from disparate data sets
  • Ability to manage projects that involve multiple stakeholders, constituencies, and/or agencies
  • Ability to thoughtfully communicate with team leaders and relevant stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication skills in presenting work to a non-technical audience
Preferred Qualifications (in addition to minimum qualifications)
  • 3 years experience in a data-focused role
  • Experience with governmental policy evaluation
  • Ability to query and analyze data in SQL
  • Experience with data visualization, especially with visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau
  • Experience in conducting process improvement analyses and recommending changes that save time and money
  • Experience with A/B testing, randomized controlled experiments, or statistical analysis
  • Familiarity with Python, R, or other programming languages for analyzing large datasets, modeling, or visualization
  • Experience with campaign or advocacy platforms and tools (EveryAction, Civis Analytics, etc)
