Lake County Sheriff's Office - Florida is Hiring a Fleet Technician 1 Near Tavares, FL

JOB SUMMARY

This position is for an experienced automotive mechanic, requiring the knowledge and ability to perform diagnosis and repairs of minor and major mechanical problems for the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

· Perform automotive maintenance, repair and diagnostics to Agency vehicles and equipment in the following specialized areas:

o Suspension and Steering

o Brakes

o Heating and Air Conditioning

o Engine Performance

o Engine Repair

o Automatic Transmission/Transaxle

o Manual Drive Train and Axles

o Electrical Systems

· Share a rotational 24-hour on call schedule.

· Performs hourly maintenance appointments, maintenance and repair on all vehicles, trailers, and equipment.

· Maintain an on-line appointment schedule.

· Perform maintenance and repair for support equipment.

· Perform welding and torch cutting as needed for repair.

· Maintain Mobile Command Trailer.

· Be alert for conditions or situations which inhibit safe and efficient operations of the Agency or Fleet Maintenance Department and make recommendations for solutions.

· Removal of equipment and graphics for vehicles going to auction.

· Assist other technicians when required.

· Assist Fleet Manager or Fleet Supervisor with administrative functions as required.

· Attend schools or seminars required to maintain certification and keep abreast with current applied technology.

· Perform any addition duties required by the Sheriff or through necessity of situations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

· Must be at least 18 years of age.

· High School Diploma or GED.

· Current ASE Automobile Certification(s) or the ability to achieve within the first 12 months of employment.

· Thorough knowledge of standard tools, materials, and practices of the automotive mechanical trade.

· Knowledge of, and the ability to operate, current diagnostic equipment.

· Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the mechanical trade.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

· ASE Automobile certification must be maintained continually as a term of employment.

· Maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

· Well rounded knowledge of current vehicle systems.

· Must possess good oral and written communication skills.

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

· Ability to exercise unusually good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.

· Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies.

· Ability to observe situations analytically and objectively and to record them clearly and completely.

· Must possess considerable skill in the use and care of pertinent tools, equipment, records, and facilities.

· Ability to use current diagnostic equipment to include on-line software for diagnosis and repairs.

· Must be able to observe and maintain safety rules and regulations.

· Current ASE Automobile certification(s) while employed with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, stand and walk. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a shop setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Depending on assignment, the employee may be required to work long and/or irregular work hours, including evenings and/or weekends. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to vibration and occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock.

SHIFT:

8 hours per day Monday through Friday; with the exception of the after-hours on- call rotational schedule.

Pay: From $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
