Purpose of Job:

The purpose of the Special Populations Teacher position is to provide direct and indirect instructional support for students with disabilities in a variety of educational settings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all- inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Collaborates with IEP team members to develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) designed to promote student development.
  • Utilizesavarietyofassessmentstodeterminepresentlevelsofperformance,monitorstudent progress, and adjust interventions accordingly.
  • DevelopsanInstructionallyAppropriateIndividualizedEducationPlanforeach
  • Analyzesandassistsincollectionofdatatoguideinstructionand/orprovideappropriate classroom interventions in a variety of settings.
  • Meets and/or communicates with parents to discuss student progress. This includes the creation and parent receipt of the IEP Goal Progress Monitoring reports.
  • Maintainseffectivecommunicationanddocumentationwithallrelevant
  • EnsuresthatstudentswithdisabilitieshaveaccesstothegeneraleducationTierI
  • Supportsgeneraleducationcolleaguesinworkingwithstudentswhohave
  • Teachesappropriatebehaviorskills,asdeterminedbyindividualizededucationplans(IEPs) and/or Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
  • Plansaprogramofstudythatmeetstheindividualneeds,interests,andabilitiesofthe
  • Createsaclassroomenvironmentthatisconducivetolearningandappropriatetothematurityand interests of the students.
  • Preparesforclassesassignedandshowswrittenevidenceof
  • Establishesclearoutcomesforalllessons,classwork,andTheoutcomesare communicated to students.
  • Supportstheprogramofstudy,usingavarietyofinstructionaltechniques,instructionalmedia and technology.
  • Servesasamodelforthedistrict'smission,visionand
  • Assessestheprogressofstudentsonaregularbasisandprovidesprogressreportsas
  • Recognizespotentiallearningdisabilitiesofstudentsandseekstheassistanceofqualified
  • Takesallnecessaryandreasonableprecautionstoprotectstudents,equipment,materials, facilities, and confidentiality of records.
  • Maintainsaccurate,complete,andcorrectrecordsasrequiredbylaw,districtpolicy,and administrative regulation.
  • Assiststheadministrationinimplementingallpoliciesandrulesgoverningstudentlifeand
  • Developsreasonablerulesofclassroombehaviorandprocedure,andmaintainsorderinthe classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Makesprovisionforbeingavailabletostudentsandparentsforeducation-relatedpurposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so.
  • Plans,supervises,andprovidesguidanceforteacheraide(s)andvolunteer(s)andwhen appropriate, evaluates their job performance in cooperation with department heads.
  • AttendsandparticipatesinstaffServesonstaffcommittees.
  • Analyzesandusesappropriatedatatoguideinstructionanddevelop
  • Maintainsastandardofperformanceandconduct,asrequiredbystate,law,localboardof education and community expectations.
  • Provides detailed plans for substitute teachers including lessons, schedules and rules regardingclassroom organization, procedures and individual student needs.
  • Supervisesstudentsatschoolrelatedfunctions,toincludeonandoffcampus
  • Maintainsprofessionalcompetencethroughin-serviceeducation
  • Assists in budget preparation and in the selection of books, instructional supplies, materials and equipment, as appropriate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS


REQUIRED SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Mustbeabletodooccasionallifting,carrying,pushingand/orpullingofupto40pounds, standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping or kneeling;
  • Mustbeabletotraverseschoolfacility;
  • Musthavesignificantfinefingerdexterity;
  • Must be able to operate standard office equipment including pertinent and required software applications;
  • Must possess excellent language skills (verbal and written) requiring the ability to read informational documentation, directions, instructions, policies and procedures related to this job, requiring the ability to give assignments and/or directions to co-workers, assistants, supervisors, studentsandparents/guardians,requiringtheabilitytodeliver verbal andwrittencommunications in English language;
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact with people (staff, supervisors, parents/guardians, students) and maintain professionalism and tact in all situations, including emergent ones, must be able to maintain constructive relationships;
  • Mustpossessexcellentorganizationalskillsandattentiontodetail;
  • Must be able to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with periodic need to enhance skills in order to meet changing job conditions.

NUMERICAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; add and subtract totals; multiply and divide; determine percentages; determine time and weight.

PHYSICAL COMMUNICATION: Requires the ability to talk and/or hear: (talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words). (Hearing - perceiving nature of sounds by ear).
