The Heavy Equipment Operator performs earthwork to prepare sites for development and/or restoration; constructs, repairs, and maintains water lines, drainage systems, roads and trails. Is responsible for completing various assignments involving excavation, landscape construction, and water and septic services. Operates dump trucks, bulldozers, road graders, payloaders, backhoe, vibratory compactor, paver, skid steer and other heavy equipment or related machinery. Works cooperatively with other crews and trades. Performs tasks that will require walking, bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, climbing, reaching and sitting. Performs heavy lifting tasks up to 50 pounds.
High school diploma or GED. Three years experience in the operation of bulldozers, excavators, pavers, skid steers and other heavy equipment or related machinery. Working knowledge of methods, practices, tools, and materials used in the construction and installation of water, sewer, and drainage systems; excavation and construction of roads and trails; ability to maintain assigned heavy equipment and tools. Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions pertaining to heavy equipment operation, excavation, and related construction trades, building demolition. Ability to use basic construction survey equipment to lay out projects and work from construction documents, sketches and written and oral instructions. Must possess a valid CDL "A" driver's license with air brake endorsement.
