Lake Butler Hospital is Hiring an Emergency Room Nurse FT Nights Near Butler, FL

Description

We are looking for an Emergency Room Nurse to join our team at Lake Butler Hospital, providing front-line care to patients who are seen in our ER. 

Job Summary:

Works under the ER supervisor and director of nursing and is responsible for the coordination of total nursing care in the emergency room department. The ER Nurse is responsible for ensuring quality nursing care through the nursing process of assessment, triage, implementation, and evaluation. He/she is responsible for the orientation, assignment, supervision, evaluation, and teaching of those under his/her direction. The ER nurse manages the shift in a way to expedite workflow. The ER Nurse ensures compliance with all operating policies and procedures of Lake Butler Hospital and AHCA regulations. The ER Nurse is to encompass the duties and responsibilities of the RN job description in addition to the following functions. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assessment of physical and psychological needs of patients in emergent situations. 
  2. Document initial findings/changes and provide report to providers to prevent decline in patient status.
  3. Can locate and utilize available resource materials.
  4. Demonstrate ability to establish priorities of care in emergent situations. 
  5. Be aware of patients that are being admitted/discharged and work with coworkers for completing assessments, treatments, paperwork, education, etc. 
  6. Make rounds to see each patient as needed. 
  7. Interventions and implementations to achieve highest patient outcomes. 
  8. Explain plan of care to patients in non-life-threatening situations. 
  9. Implements plan of care by dispensing medications and carrying out providers orders. 
  10. Verifies that accurate documentation of nursing intervention, effectiveness of care, and patient response is in record. 
  11. Communicates effectively with providers and other personnel verbally and through written documents.
  12. Assist with the implementation of health education according to individual patient needs.
  13. Demonstrates technical skill in the use of all medical equipment at LBH (i.e., monitor, tourniquet). 
  14. Respects dignity and confidentiality of patients and provides a safe and secure environment for the patient.
  15. Functions within limits of Florida Nurse Practice Act, AHCA, OSHA, EMTALA, HIPPA, Infection Control, hospital and emergency department policies and procedures. 
  16. Responds to emergencies, assess the condition of the patient, decides on the type of medical attention required, verify that appropriate provider is notified, calls ambulance as needed and notify family, etc. 
  17. Verify that follow-up, self-care instructions, written by the physician were given to the patient with adequate understanding by the patient. 
  18. Initiates referrals or transfers as necessary to other health care providers and arrange transportation.
  19. Assist with identifying necessary medical information to be communicated and identifies community resources available.
  20.  Responsible for the orientation, assignment, and supervision of employees under his/her direction. 
  21.  Acts as a preceptor of new personnel, maintaining an awareness of individual needs through the orientation process. 22
  22.  Appropriately assigns duties to team members that are within his/her scope of knowledge and skills.
  23. Coordinates assignments to insure both the completion of patient care, and to allow participation in other unit activities within the designated shift. 
  24. Ensures that down time during a designated shift is utilized productively. 
  25.  Maintains open lines of communication with co-workers, referring special needs to the ER supervisor and DON. 
  26.  Completes medication, employee, patient, or other variance reports in a timely manner and reports to Risk Manager/DON.
  27.  Maintains accountability for controlled substances in the medical dispensing units. 
  28.  Corrects and reports any discrepancies of medication throughout the shift with another nurse. 
  29.  Supervises LPNs, paramedics, and CNAs working in the emergency room during shift and evaluates/ determines work procedures to expedite workflow.
  30.  Complete review of equipment to verify in working order.
  31.  Verify ER is stocked for shift. 
  32.  Attends and participates in ER staff meetings.
  33.  Cooperates with members of the health team to achieve hospital and emergency department goals/standards related to patient care.
  34.  Manages stressful situations in a way that promotes teamwork and accomplishment of goals. 
  35.  Works with others to reach solutions, which take into consideration the concerns and needs of others. 
  36.  Supports the facilities medical supply system; follow procedures for patient charge items.
  37.  Ensure medical supplies are stocked in appropriate quantities in supply rooms. 
  38. Takes part in activities to promote the hospital’s objectives. 
  39.  Works within hospital and department policies. 
  40.  Accepts other assignments, job duties, etc. as required.
  41.  Ensures guest relations by always demonstrating a welcoming and helpful attitude.
  42.  Functions as an effective team member by maintaining positive inter- and intra-departmental relationships.

General Duties:

  1. Ensures positive guest relations by demonstrating a welcoming, caring, and helpful attitude to all patients and visitors of LBH and enforces this attitude among other staff. 
  2. Functions as an effective team member by maintaining positive intra-and interdepartmental relationships. 
  3. Protects patients’ rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information in compliance with HIPAA policies
  4. Attends and or completes mandatory annual education to include, but not limited to infection control, safety, risk management, etc.
  5. Complies with hospital policies and procedures.
  6. Contributes to the overall success of Lake Butler Hospital by performing all other duties as assigned.
  7. Serves on committees as requested by Administration.
  8. Always presents a professional appearance and attitude.
  9. Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
  10. Wears identification while on duty. 
  11. Demonstrates the ability to work cohesively with other members of a team.
  12. Always represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. 
  13. Meets hospital attendance standards. 
  14. Reports to work on time and as scheduled.
  15. Demonstrates punctuality and consistency by clocking in/out appropriately.
  16. Takes part in activities to promote the objectives and goals of LBH.
  17. Continually strives to meet department goals.
  18. Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and local regulations.
  19. Complies with all organization policies and standards regarding ethical business practices. 
  20.  Attends regular staff meetings.
  21. Keeps abreast of organizational changes and information by reading documents provided, checking individual company emails, etc., of a weekly basis.

Requirements

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed in the state of Florida to practice professional registered nursing. 

Experience: Minimum of three years medical/surgical experience. (With one year experience in emergency room or critical care preferred.)

Skills: BLS, ACLS, PALS certification required. May obtain ACLS and PALS within six months of hire. 

OSHA Category: Category I - Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue.
