Laguna College of Art + Design is Hiring an Admissions Counselor Near Laguna Beach, CA

Laguna College of Art Design, is seeking a full-time experienced Admissions Counselor. The College is located in an internationally recognized arts colony in Laguna Beach, California and offers a diversity of majors in Animation, Graphic Design and Digital Media, Fine Art, Game Art, Illustration, and Entertainment Design.

Position Summary:

The Admissions Counselor participates in undergraduate degree program recruitment activities, meets with prospective students, reviews artwork portfolios, and processes applications in a timely manner. Recruitment activities include, but are not limited to, high school presentations with students, faculty, or counselors; special events; college fairs; targeted mailings; and National Portfolio Days. Some weekend and evening work is required. Regional travel is also required and accounts for approximately 25% of the position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Recruitment and Promotion

  • Meets with students and families to discuss the school in general, majors, application requirements, and basic financial requirements.
  • Reviews portfolios of prospective students and provide feedback and direction.
  • Provides presentations to high schools and community colleges about LCAD programs, possible careers in the field, preparing for the application process, and building portfolios.
  • Attends college fairs, high schools, and community colleges to advise students individually about LCAD.
  • Participates in virtual meetings, tours, portfolio reviews, fairs, and presentations with applicants, teachers, and parents as needed.
  • Actively participate in LCAD’s diversity, equity, and inclusion program.
  • Develops on-going relationships with art teachers for year-after-year recruitment.
  • Maintains a database of contacts for on-going recruitment.
  • Meets with high school counselors, college advisors & career counselors to discuss LCAD, current careers, economic and vocational trends, and shifts concerning future employment possibilities for students.
  • Attends National Portfolio Days across the country, contracts and secures appointments to visit and present to high potential high schools in multiple cities.
  • Makes all travel arrangements for these trips according to college policies and arranges for all materials to be delivered to sites.
  • Responds to, processes, and continually monitors all applications for completion within the required timeline.
  • Answers incoming inquiries from students and parents.

Communication and Marketing

  • Establishes and conducts extensive profiling of regions nationally, utilizing, and synthesizing data from multiple sources.
  • Identifies high potential areas and identifies specific schools and contacts within them.
  • Builds and maintains a database of schools and contacts.
  • Develops communication packages for high school counselors, teachers, prospects, parents of prospects, and other specialty groups as necessary.

Retention

  • Participates in retention efforts as outlined by the College.

Position Requirements, Experience, and Education:

Education

BA or BFA in visual arts required or commensurate education and experience.

Experience

  • Background in student recruitment or related experience in college services are highly desired.
  • Experience with computer applications and SRM student information system experience a plus (Target X or Salesforce preferred).

Licenses

Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license, maintain an excellent driving record, have a means of transportation and carry Bodily Injury Liability Insurance coverage of at least $50,000 per person/$50,000 per accident.

Position Requirements

  • Intermediate skill levels for Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are required.
  • Intermediate skill levels for Google Suite: Gmail and Calendar are required.
  • Must be able to demonstrate experience with diversity, equity, and inclusion programs and issues.
  • Must be able to demonstrate effectiveness as a culturally competent professional with broad experience interacting with and supporting the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Must be student-centered with a demonstrated commitment to providing leadership in a richly diverse and multicultural campus environment.
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with a variety of constituencies is required.
  • Ability to travel independently, including some evenings and weekends is required.
  • Must possess research and synthesizing capabilities using a variety of resources; i.e., government databases, periodicals, and other specialty databases.
  • Excellent listening, written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team required.
  • Excellent organizational skills required.
  • Must be self-motivated, focused, proactive, and have a positive attitude.
  • Excellent spelling, grammar, and editing skills required.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in fast-paced, demanding environment required.
  • Experience in higher education preferred.
  • Must be able to drive personal vehicle for business purposes and must pass DMV background check and have minimum insurance requirements as set by LCAD.

The successful candidate will also be able to perform the following essential functions:

Physical Essential Functions:

Sitting, typing, and moving from one place to another. This position takes place indoors in an office environment sitting at a desk and working in front of a computer.

Business Hours:

Regular business hours for the College are Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM. Regular hours may vary based on the College’s needs and type of position. Weekend and evening hours may be required. Travel will be required.

Classification and Status:

This is an exempt position.

This is a regular, full-time position.

This is a benefits-eligible position.

Salary Range: $66,560.00 per year

Background Check:

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a job-related background check, inclusive of employment and education verification. Some positions may require successful completion of a post-offer agility test. Employment is contingent on satisfactory results of the aforementioned, in addition to compliance with requirements cited in this job description.

Employment with the College is “at-will” meaning the that the terms of employment may be changed with or without notice, with or without cause, including but not limited to termination, demotion, promotion, transfer, compensation, benefits, duties, and location of work. There is no agreement expressed or implied between the College and you for continuing or long-term employment.
