Assistant Director – Youth Programs

A LUM Youth Programs assistant director oversees the activities of the LUM youth programs, including but not limited to the LUM After School Program & LUM 5th Quarter Summer Learning Program, heretofore referred to as “programs.” They also monitor the performance of the program aides, teachers and volunteers. They are responsible for client satisfaction and safety by adhering to the LUM guidelines and state regulations. They are also in charge of maintaining a tidy and organized workspace stocked with essential supplies, while ensuring that the programs run smoothly.

Type: Part-time, hourly

Immediate Supervisor: Youth Programs Director

Starting pay: $17 per hour

Terms: As specified in LUM Employee Handbook

Hours: Daytime hours; School Session: 20 hours per week (five days per week, four hours per day), depending on LSC school calendar; Summer Session: 40 hours per week (five days per week, 8 hours per day), depending on LSC school calendar

Duties

General Youth Programs Duties

  • Assist the Youth Program Director in any duties assigned
  • Assist in supervising programs
  • Assist in developing daily curriculum and activities
  • Assist with all aspects of program transportation
  • Assist in recruiting outside presenters
  • Assist in raising additional funds for the programs
  • Ensures that meals and snacks are available and provided to children
  • General administration of all health and safety protocols including but not limited to food service, CPR, first aid, TB test certifications, driving certification, registered ministry and CCDF compliance

Enrollment - Families, Children

  • Assist in recruiting 60-70 children for the programs
  • Assist in publicizing the programs to schools and families
  • Maintain good communication with families, children and teachers
  • Develop and oversee implementation of child behavior plan
  • Responsible for accurate entry of client data into database (Matt 25)
  • Responsible for accurate entry of volunteer data into database (Vineyard)
  • Oversees the collection of fees at the end of the shift and manage deposits into lockbox

Facility

  • Ensures that the youth center is clean and orderly at all times using cleaning checklists
  • Reports maintenance needs promptly and oversees progress of maintenance and repairs
  • Takes Inventory of supplies including but not limited to teaching supplies, toiletries, cleaning supplies, office supplies, and paper products.
  • Moves supplies into and out of the workspace when needed.
  • Purchases: submits requests and purchases supplies as needed for items
  • Communicates with Maintenance Director regarding purchase of cleaning supplies
  • Garden - engaged students, collaborate with local agencies and maintain garden

Youth Program Staff & Volunteers

  • Recruit, train and supervise paid staff, approve timecards
  • Manage daily schedules, employee shifts, time cards, and time-off requests
  • Assign duties to employees and oversee their progress
  • Ensure that daily duties are completed
  • Provide guidance and feedback to employees when needed
  • Handle employee complaints
  • Resolve conflicts between employees
  • Recruit, train, schedule and coordinate volunteers
  • Communicates with volunteer groups
  • Ensure LUM rules and regulations are followed including but not limited to the Personnel, LUM Safe Children, Conflicts of Interest & Job Abandonment policies

Family-Client Relations

  • Ensure LUM rules and regulations are followed
  • Handle family-client complaints
  • Oversees student behavior and discipline
  • Ensures that family-client confidentiality is protected
  • Enters records into the LUM database and ensure they are accurate

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or social work; Master’s degree preferred
  • Previous experience as a child care supervisor or similar role
  • Full understanding of industry safety standards
  • Comprehensive knowledge of basic software, such as Google Docs, Google Sheets, Word and Excel
  • The ability to meet the physical demands of the job, such as standing up for long hours and lifting heavy loads occasionally
  • Working well within a team
  • Ability to multitask
  • Leadership and conflict-management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work cooperatively with diverse people and groups
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Have a strong faith dynamic as expressed by a willingness to accept and support LUM’s Mission Statement
