La Porte ISD is Hiring a Transportation Supervisor, Discipline and Safety Near La Porte, TX

Position: Transportation Supervisor, Discipline and SafetyLocation: Support Services CenterPrimary PurposeImplement and oversee the student safety program for La Porte ISD Transportation to include: Maintaining the student ridership program, processing discipline referrals, addressing safety concerns related to the school bus environment, providing training opportunities related to student management and bus rider safety for department staff members as appropriate. This position will serve as a liaison between the campuses and the Transportation Department and will work in conjunction with the campus administrators as appropriate to best meet the overall needs of the students.
Education/Certification
  • High School Diploma or GED, required; Bachelor’s degree, preferred
  • Commercial driver’s license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements, preferred
  • TAPT Specialist Certification, preferred
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Applications and applicable transportation software
  • Organizational, communication, team, multi-tasking, documentation, conflict resolution skills, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work within deadlines and handle interruptions
Experience
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience as a school bus driver (required)
  • Three (3) years’ experience as a transportation supervisor (preferred)
Major Responsibilities And Duties
  • Maintain inventory of student ridership units (tablets).
  • Stay in contact with student ridership vendor for updates on all equipment and replacement of units.
  • Provide training to campus personnel for badge printing software.
  • Assist campuses with trouble shooting of badge printing problems.
  • Maintain inventory of all badge printing supplies and deliver supplies to campuses when needed.
  • Process student behavioral/safety referrals in a timely manner.
  • Investigate reports of student safety incidents through conference with students, parents, drivers, and campus administrators as necessary.
  • Assess reported student safety incidents and take necessary corrective action to include recommendation of appropriate student discipline, driver/attendant counseling, etc.
  • Provide training and retraining to department staff concerning student management in the transportation environment as necessary and appropriate.
  • Make recommendations to the Director concerning personnel assignment, reassignment, and dismissal as it relates to student safety and behavioral matters.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of manuals and publications which properly document relevant policies, procedures, and processes related to student safety management.
  • Address matters of student transportation safety as it relates to non-disciplinary matters such as campus loading zones, traffic patterns, campus entry and dismissal procedures.
  • Work together with Training Supervisor to maintain a school bus safety/evacuation training program district-wide.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Maintain confidentiality as it relates to students and employees.
  • Supervise a pool of transportation staff as assigned.
  • Support the District and Transportation Department through strong work ethic and punctual attendance.
  • Must be willing to drive any bus route as assigned.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental FactorsTools/Equipment Used: Radio communication equipment, computer and peripherals. Ability to drive all types of school buses.
Posture: Sitting for extended periods, repetitive use of fingers and hands to operate a keyboard and other office equipment as necessary, as is
Motion: Frequent sitting, walking bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling.
Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying of 50 pounds or greater
Environment: Work outside and inside with minimal exposure to extreme temperatures and vehicle fumes; work around vehicles and machinery with moving parts.
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress, ability to egress from bus and supervise student evacuation from bus in a timely manner during emergency situations, occasional prolonged and irregular hours and occasional out of district travel.

The district contributes $400/monthly to the cost of "employee-only" health insurance which is $175/monthly greater than the state required amount of $225/monthly.
