LA Modern Auctions is Hiring a Specialist, Design Near Los Angeles, CA

LA Modern Auctions is looking for a Design Specialist to join our growing team at our new location in Hollywood, CA. The position requires prior primary or secondary design market experience and extensive knowledge of all categories of design. We are seeking a passionate and hard-working individual with the ability to handle multiple responsibilities, collaboration and organization to meet deadlines.

LA Modern Auctions is part of Rago/Wright: a network of independent auction houses specializing in 20th century art, design, and luxury objects. Our innovative style and superior expertise set us apart in the auction industry and together, we maintain a compelling and original voice in the worlds of art and design. Employees collaborate across departments and across our three locations, working closely together to support the company leading up to and during auctions and exhibitions in a fast-paced and creatively driven environment.

Responsibilities:

Consignment Team Responsibilities

  • Developing new client relationships and executing client outreach, for both the buying and selling side of the business
  • Working specifically with the Design team to build and cover our core collecting areas based out of our Los Angeles location
  • Managing consignments and the consignor relationship throughout the consignment process
  • Working with a team of specialists to field, price and negotiate consignment inquiries
  • Answering auction related inquiries; creating and distributing auction related materials, including condition reports, and targeted selling outreach
  • Address and answer select inquiries as directed from the consignment team or received in the consignment inbox
  • Enter all inventory taken in to internal system, and work with sellers to complete descriptions and provenance details as well as potential additional content on any given item or groups of items consigned
  • Support the Consignment Team on larger consignments and proposals as needed

Client Service Responsibilities

  • Customer service in a wide range of areas, including general and auction related inquiries via phone, web chat and client visits
  • Assisting with local area consignment visits
  • Assisting with auction day tasks as needed
  • Assisting with pre-auction exhibition staffing, depending on location, and speaking to the clients about property either in person, or remotely

Cataloguing Responsibilities

  • Review property delivered to Los Angeles, cataloguing and condition reports prior to publication
  • Assist the teams in the warehouse with physical cataloguing and conditioning when needed
  • Working with other internal teams, including research, cataloguing, marketing, and retail to produce content, scholarship and expand marketing possibilities

Required Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of all categories of design
  • Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
  • Excellent negotiation, communication and organizational skills
  • Prior auction experience, a plus

Salary:

We are offering a competitive salary range of $70,000 to $90,000, depending on the candidate's experience, skillset, and qualifications.
